I want that as a GIANT SUPERWEAPON

What you could do though, is maybe use that model as a reference and use it for normal mapping, its not uber highpoly like most normal mapped models typically are, but its still high enough and detailed enough to use.

I like the dual guns, too, but if that's 55% of the last polycount... um... so what is your count now?
If I had to guess, I'd say 2500-3000 triangles. Aim for 1000-1500, unless these are
very rare units.

+1, although somebody would have to write a geometry distortion shader to see most of that.

Yeah Highpoly but its not for a BA like mod where you spam 100000 Units like that so i like it.

I think there you see the details better :O

Lemmi, that model is really awesome! Dont know if polycount is appropriate or not, its awesome IMO, and it has "character".
EDIT:
The background image hurts me eyes

Totally acceptable polycount if its a superweapon, you could even bump it up a bit since it will probably be built in few #'s and late game.
Does look really nice though.

I think you let the model topology guide your design too much, using extrude on faces because they are there not because you want to form something according to your design.

Thats commonly used and has the advantage of not producing many invisible polygons. ofc it becomes redundant as soon as you learn how to delete faces but still it can give some nice results if not overused.
Nice model btw, only the gun looks a bit weird to me.

what KDR is trying to say is that he is jealous and you should extrude moar

no. he's saying polies should have a purpose, and if you can pull off making the same detail using textures, don't bother to add the extra polies.
or at least i think.

No, he's saying that the extrusions are obviously "pick an existing poly and extrude it". He didn't design the extrusions as part of the model, he just built the shape, looked at some polys that the curving algorithm had produced, and pulled.

I asked myself the same question - came to the conclusion he's kidding you and the intention of the quote is to say "bobthedinosaur posted in WIP without showing a new model"
(Believe me, I was helped in inferring this cause I rushed here when I saw you were the last person to post here - and was perhaps almost as let down as smoth

- we just love your work too much!).

Hey, hamsate!
Since you had a few little problems with shading, and I was bored and eager to try out my new texxing skills, bestowed upon my by the almighty master smoth, I shaded your tank!
Here it is:
And I also made some variants!
here is the base texture, so you can see how I worked on your texture image.:
you see how the parts that the light hits are brighter, and where the shadows would be are darker?
I hope this helped, and I'd really like to see images of these textures on the tank model.
