I would say a darker smeared like look liek rock on th ground would be best, such a metal spot was used in a small map I've forgotten the name of...

LordMatt is quite right. Spring has F-screens for metal, slope, etc... but if you rely on the player mashing function keys to see the most critical info about your map, then you may as well not bother texturing it, since we're not going to see your texture map for more than the quarter-second it takes to reach the F4 key.

Well if you made them look like little humps in the sand, with a little silver peeking through it would look cool. :-)

I've added the metal splats and reduced to amount of Geos to 6 now.
So, here are 3 screenies on the main texture.

Some people might prefer having the starting spots closer together, but its probably fine as is.
