the server resource required for a MMORTS would be.... quite a bit. Of course, it would be revolutionary if it can be implemented (a multiplayer, dynamic campaign on a galactic scale, the constant struggle between core and arm, or some other races, so online play is no longer just random skirmishes, but part of something much much bigger), but right now at least it doesn't sound terribly feasible. Better stick to something more realistic, like the current PW model that is being worked on.
I guess we can always dream for a MMORTS...

*hops in* In temrs of resource load I think that some sort of p2p system or distributed system would be needed, either that or a truckload of cash *hop out*

I threw around the acronym "MMORTS" to prove the impossibility of the ideas suggested, not to encourage their exploration.
While I think that MMORTS is the next step for RTS, it is a bloody complicated idea, and one that needs to be thought out and discussed, and trialled by a well paid team.
Meanwhile, we can get a pretty nifty Spring Galactic War happening, which is entirely within the realm of possibility, at the moment.

Would you be able to be a neutral? I think it would be cool to see the universe in my all terrain space vehicle, checking out the many bizarre and interesting planets. I would meet interesting people.... and kill them!
Also I could get out of my ATSC and check out the battles!
