The way I see it is if you get owned by someone using so called "lame tactics", then you deserved it for not playing smart.
As for why Commanders in Spring have the large explosions, it is a balancing tool. Think about it. The commander has the ultimate weapon able to kill anything... If you didn't have to worry about blasting apart your own forces, wouldn't you be far more agressive with your commander?
The "pausing" to micromanage is a cheap tactic in my opinion. Couldn't Spring simply be tweaked to prevent assigning orders while the game is paused? That would be the easiest fix...
Using the bear to comm-nap can be countered by modifying the script to shorten its reach to less than that of the d-gun. This would allow for easy prevention for players who are paying attention. Just like d-gunning a transport aircraft... Easy as long as you're paying attention.

Stop provoking people. The topic of dicsussion here isn't weather or not you can make people mad a you. -Moderator
And in neither of your editing instances am I the one originally aiming to provoke another. Selective moderation is also a sign of poor sportsmanship, don'thca think?
Then again, I understand your desire to protect nasty people who're too incompetent to protect themselves - it's like Save the Whales or somethin'. As ya like.^.~

Let me quote myself on this:
Do whatever the f*** you want, just don't bitch about it afterwards... this is "Total Annihilation", not "Total Geneva Convention" ffs.
This is a wargame. Short of code exploits, everything goes. Deal with it.

Comm rushing and comm bombing can really take away from the enjoyment of the game for some people. It is true that these tactics are not really that hard to counter. But, they will only cause hard feelings.

People who say "commbombing is so unfair and unbalaincg lets nerf comm xplosion!11!!" reall, really irk me. Not because they can't hold back a commander attack, but because they refuse to learn how to hold back a commadner attack (not directed at anyone in this thread specifically).
I can't recall the number of games i've played where a commander is used offensively and the other team (be it other people on my team or the other team) moan about "bullshit gameplay" and "lamerz" and "unfair tactics" etc.
After they quit halfway throuhg the game and we talk in the lobby, I make some points clear to them:
1) Offensively the commander is nothing more than an L3 unit
2) TA is about numbers; bigger numbers on more ranges and techs mean that you can destroy any so-called "super" unit.
3) Failing everything else, 3 or 4 LLTs in *any* mod can fuck a commander up his rear.
And then they go and we play the next game together and the EXACT SAME THING HAPPENS TO THEM... and they have never made an attempt to learn or to get better; but the whining continues. >_<
I've seen this behavior more form stars than any other rank, unfortunately >_>
If anyone wants to beef up their skill, go play some hardcore OTA on PW or something... see what real rushing and a real intense game is all about...

On that line of thought, Dave, beating someone at all will cause hard feelings. Perhaps we should all play to lose? =)

this is all troll bait, how many times has this been discussed since 1997?
seriously, Com bombing is a viable strategy, if you dont like it, make your own mod, so the com has nearly no blast area, maybe make it like a crawling bomb or something.
theres plenty of whiners out there that cry when it happens. they turn on "com death game ends" then you still trade coms, but hey guess what? you gave all your stuff to your allies.
doh :)

Offcourse, if they are playing NC, nothing will happen.
But anyway, i think we have disccussed everything. Com rushing/bombing is considerd a viable tatic bye most, and not bye some. There are counters, alredy stated in this thread, and there is now 3 solutions for those who think the commander is overpowerd or just don't want com rushes and bombs, not counting combinations of these 3.
Thread over?

So long as people realize the purpose of this thread, Kixxe, that's fine by me.
Out of curiosity, do you understand why this thread was put here?

this works well, now only cydar needs to include it in 1.45 so some players will stop cying.

I think I'll make an uber commander varient of AA, where he's the size of a Krogoth and has nuclear powered courier pigeons that fly out of his arm pits that wreck continual havoc even after he has been destroyed.
Or, even buildable commanders. That would be kinda neat, if not completely absurd.

There was a mutator for OTA that made the commander a Krogoth with building capability

acctually... it's pertinent... in nanoblobs... if you play "commdeath=lose"... do you lose when you lose the last of your "commander" units, or when you lose your orriginal commander unit?
