I have noticed that s44 models seem to have very 'flat' shading, they look like they have low dynamic range. I hardly see any specular highlights or heavily occluded areas. Do you use normal maps in s44?

This model has no normal map. Some other models (tanks) do have them.

Problem isn't missing normlmap, it's the missing tex2.
Metal reflects light and that is totally missing w/o tex2.

Looks awesome Pica, and (naturally) totally insane.
Turns out Spiked's dropship model has kinda over large feet for the doors
Solution: overly-intricate unfolding anim to get them out without clipping.

So after two days of playing with my new Wacom tablet, I finally have something I'm not totally embarrassed to show off. (It's a character sprite for my SECRET PROJECT)
Plan to give her braids eventually, but I don't feel like investing the effort right now.

I would especially like to know if you are using a second set of UVs for it or if youre just wrapping a texture on it.

it's a detalmap shader, so no additional uv map. It's just the stock renderer with ~4 additional lines that splat the detailmap across the texture (in 2 different resolutions to reduce repetition). It mixes it minor into the diffuse color and heavily into the specular reflection term.
