Have a major faceless corp tell you what you can and can't do with your hardware and trying to "Club" you into buying only games from their collection not competitors? Real liberals don't buy consoles. The Pirating party emulates.

At the time I bought my PS3 I could not have gotten a computer that could play Portal 2 for that price... now I was able to play Portal 2 on my PS3 which is like 4 year old hardware and still on par with most people's computers... yes they are jerks about their hardware but they have reason to be... we might not like them but it makes sense to them that they spent all this money to put themselves in a position to profit from licensing and don't wish to let anyone NOT paying that licensing fee to be able to have their software work on the PS3 hardware... the pirating argument is really just a convenient angle that has been provided to them to provide validity to the policies they would have in place anyway.
Heh... also looks like we'll stay offline till the end of the month now... Sarcastic Yay!

I don't get console people.
Lets look at it this way. For one of my customers, they need a computer on the hardcore cheap to run their presentation software and livestream it at the same time.
So here is how I'm doing it...
All parts from microcenter.com
Amd Phenom 2 quad core 3.2 ghz processor. 99 bucks
Biostar shitty microatx mobo is free with that purchase (but who cares whether it's shitty or not?)
so 2 of the more pricy essentials are immediately taken care of. Next,
coresair 8gb 2 card memory set (ddr3 1333) 99 bucks
ok 200 bucks so far and we have the primary essentials for a hardcore beefy ass computer.
well we're gonna need an hd, and one that doesn't suck horribly, so...
western digital 400gb (7200rpm) on sale for 35 bucks. check.
case, 20 bucks (basically the cheapest pile of shit with 2 fans that I could find)
psu, 20 bucks 550 watts
need a halfway non-shitty gpu so that the multiple screens aspect can be done plus compressing the video and all that other good shit.
nvidia 8400gs from PNY with 1gb of gddr3, 20 bucks
295 dollars and I've put together this little workhorse:
quad core 3.2 ghz cpu
8 gb ddr3
nvidia 8400gs (1gb ddr3)
400gb hd (7200rpm)
HOW CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO BUY A COMPUTER WHEN THE PRICE IS COMPARED TO A CONSOLE?
Hell, this is almost cheaper than a fricking wii!

Because I bought that console 4 years ago when a computer of equivalent power would have cost nearly 1,000...

When a console comes out it needs to be more powerful then a computer you could buy for the same price (or better in some key aspect... like the wiimote, kinect and move aim to do)
Somewhere during it's life-cycle people are buying it because of the existing library of games and an installed base of users buying new games and making them popular.

It NEVER is, unless you're talking about computers bought off the shelf or from dell or summat, but buying a comp that way pretty much = waste of money/dumbass anyway so...

Anyway the kinect hardware is just 2 webcams.
Yahtzee says motion controls are useless.
For 2$ you can get funny colored glasses and with free directX compatible software play in 3d from any PC. Or get the right projector and watch 3d movies with polarized glasses. Then there is laptop portability.
With consoles the hardware costs are quickly made up in other ways. Its like a cell company offering nearly free phones.

everything.
My DVD player, portable game console, backup mobile phone, camcorder, and alarm clock are all branded "Sony."
...And I don't even like the company!

Indeed your forgetting the IR depth component, it's not purely devised from the 2 RGB feeds, otherwise you'd be able to use 2 Kinects at the same time

I own all of the current gen consoles. I have to do something while textures build for 8+ hours. Will be getting brink today to play with brother and friends. On xbl, not psn.

PS online was total garbage to begin with anyways; you're not going to get a good experience with a free service / no dedicated servers
when this brick came out in the first place the only advantage price-wise was that it came with a blueray player, otherwise the hardware was on par price-wise with computers
of course its not really a deal in any way shape or form as blueray movies are massively overpriced

Nope... hadn't heard that... they'll probably screw me out of it because I live in Canada anyway.
edit: Looks like it's 1 PS3 and 1 PSP game from the following lists:
source
http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20063251-260.html
The company had announced on May 5 a free identity theft monitoring program for customers, and said today that specific details of how to enroll are still forthcoming.
Also today Sony said PSN customers will get to choose a free video game to download. PS3 owners can choose from a list that includes Dead Nation, inFAMOUS, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD, and Wipeout HD + Fury, all titles that would normally cost between $10 and $20. PSP owners can choose one free game from among LittleBigPlanet (PSP), ModNation Racers, Pursuit Force, and Killzone Liberation. The offer lasts for 30 days once the PlayStation Store returns, but once downloaded the game can be kept forever.
Once the PlayStation Store comes online over an unspecified weekend there will be "a selection" of free movies to rent. Current PlayStation Plus subscribers will get 60 days free tacked on to the subscription they've already paid for, nonsubscribers get 30 days free of PS Plus. Music Unlimited by Qriocity Premium Trial subscribers will get 30 days free of premium service, Premium and Basic level subscribers will get 30 days free plus the same amount of time lost while the service was inaccessible. PlayStation Home will offer users 100 free virtual items as compensation.
I already own LittleBigPlanet and Super Stardust HD... so I guess I get Dead Nation, inFAMOUS or Wipeout HD + Fury to choose from... I didn't like the inFAMOUS demo (just mash the same attack and then mash super attack) so probably not that one... suggestions?
Also note that PSPlus includes access to some free games... so I'll get access to those, too, for the free 30 days that's available to me.
All this assuming they let us pirate friendly Canadians have the same benefits our "in the pockets of the corporations" neighbours to the south get.
