I got was people like you knorke who just gave me shit for every idea I tried to implement instead of any useful constructive comments..
Only idea i (plus some others) did not like was the scale change. Everything else ie the hub system was always positive received.
Strange how you are/were annoyed by feedback of players, people would not bother to respond if they did not care for the game.
I wont even bother to defend my critic or w/e because wtf it seems you just want a reason for quitting that seems cooler then

The engine has changed so radically
.3do models still work, cob unit scripts still work, old unitdef files (.fbi or whatever) still work, .tdf still works. Only some small changes are needed (ie modinfo.lua instead of modinfo.tdf) and if you look around the forum, somebody has already done that. (That asshole.)

but there is still embers beneath the ashes, he still has the fire, that lurks within every spring drama. If that wasnt the case, he wouldnt be on a konstant lookout for tombraiders and/or have smoth keep an eye out for EE-spelunkers.

Anyway, time moved on, and lets face it, spring has so many amazing games by now, EE is just one of the many old ones. Take a look at the cursed, look at micronwars, gundam, evolution, conflict terra, s44, so Fanger wants his models to rest. They may rest in peace.

Party on the graveyard!

Yeah like smoth said, springs mumble server is really good and up pretty much all the time. None of this fail like I forgot to start the server on my machine and shit like that lol.

I totally understand your feelings on the subject, but knowing what I know now, I would kill to have the kind of support that you had back then. Luckily I still get a lot of help from various members of the community, but to have a pack of able bodied and bored enough to actually do something people sitting around more or less at my disposal? Worth it's weight in gold.

Regardless, would be neat to see you around again tho :-) Whether you revived EE from it's slumber or not. Makes no matter to me. Rather have you around than not.

Fang:

Unit Models

Sure a few arseholes thought the units all looked the same up close.

The problem was when zoomed out. Sadly because the obvious 'make them bigger' was not an option, and nobody with the skills could be arsed to do anything, it just ended up as an impasse.

But alas, we have new solutions!!!!!!! The prettiest being Beheriths ground plates, which make an enormous impact in this capacity.

The Old Gang

We may not all be a close knit group, we might have moved about a little, but we do still talk sometimes, and we never did fall out with you ( or at least we hope you dont think so )

Engine Modernisation

There really isn't too much to do, and a lot of the ideas you originally wanted can be done know, and we have the lua coders to pull it off.

If it weren't for your stance and the forgetting of the 'why' part, EE would have been fixed up so it worked identically to how you last had it. No balance changes, just fixed up gameplay. Until recently it worked quite well minus some minor errors that cropped up in play, but I remember at the time winning a game with about 10 people in a FFA.

To summarize the effort to fix is minimal.

I can't play spring

Price up exactly what you would need to get back up and running and perhaps we can pull a bunny out the hat =]

... seriously, it was a little constructive criticism that chased you off?

The reason people were pointing out these things was because EE was a fantastic game and they wanted it to be *better*. Every one of those complaints was legitimate - EE's models did have issues with being difficult to distinguish at long view-distances, and having one assault faction is bound to create balance issues. But people harped because they loved the game and wanted to keep playing, and wanted these frustrations removed.

You had a real player-base, and that gets real complaints. I don't see Smoth or the S44 guys getting that kind of feedback on the main Spring forums - they curate their own small groups, but they're just ignored by the main Spring player-base.

You have a much more glorified memory of ee pxtl.

The player group that complained about eee was stubborn and demanding, when they didn't get their way they actively bashed fang. Then there was the months and months of bitching about unit differentiation, which wasn't an issue for the old EE players and still fang tweaked up the models with people bitching still. There may have been some constructive critique but it was short lived and quickly became demands that fang go back from epic ee to ee163(I think that was the version). It was not constructive and whatever accommodations fang made(redoing the models for example) was actively shat on.

The community was rude, demanding, stubborn and frankly those guys might have played 5% of the total ee games ever

Pretty much. The bullshit that goes on and has gone on here is why i started the fgjl. Which if fang comes back I will have the motivation to fix the busted version of the current site.

if i remember correct, the drama grew even in fgjl- wasnt there this guy posting about a girl who attacked him. spring board seems really tame in comparison, maybee open source just is nothing for you from the start, if you are soft at heart.

I think Fang is happy with and were he is now, otherwise he would check back on the board. Even if just to fight of the toothbrush indiana jones going for his modells.

I miss EE, it was one of my favorite games ever on the spring engine, right next to XTA. I'd pick it any day over 1944, Imperial Winter (from the beta), and sometimes depending on the mood Kernel Panic. Has it been fixed for this version?

We should arrange a time so I can King of EE again.

I would actually like to throw in my two cents as this discussion comes to a close

I think that Fangers analysis of how a mod catches on and becomes popular is dead wrong. From my understanding Fanger believes(I think) that it is the impression of spring player base have of his mod that decides if a mod get played or not. Therefore he (or she/it/wtv) must try to conceal any past connections to his mods old name or potential negative use of his models to keep have any chance of his mod catching on. He wants to even go as far as to change his name. While there might be some truth to what he is saying, this is not how mods have caught on in spring. If we look at all of the mods that seriously get played in spring that are not BA (nota, xta, s44, ZK ,ect.) we see that they all have a quasi-independent communities. Actually most of the fundamentalist Ba player base are critical of these mods for not being BA. During my whole time in spring i have seen NO mods becomes successful or even diminish overnight, mods have had their community increased or decreased(more notably ZK, which is slowing giving Ba a run for its money). Now taking that analysis and applying it to the case of E&E, we see that Fangers mis-understanding of how mods catch on is actually destroying any chance of E&E ever catching on again. Changing names hurts rebuilding E&Es community(for what I heard E&E had a community, I dont know since I was not there). Also the fact that there has been a huge gap(an increasing gap) between E&Es last development till now, there are now less and less people who know about E&E

Having an understanding of what gets your game played and what dose not is very important, having the wrong understanding can affect you actions in a way that you might start digging your own grave.

I dont see the problem of letting smoth just maintain E&E(in ways u approve of), till the day u might comes back(also, plz dont add lups, since I hate it when I cant see some of the FXs).also, I dont think trolls will be a problem anymore, since you can ban them from ur sub-fourm(if u come back)

Also, I believe someone updated E&E to work on new spring a bit ago, IÔÇÖm down 2 play a few games

Your assessments and assertions are made without knowing the actual history. Fang's sentiment is based on events that you were not around for some key moments. Your points are good but they need context which you don't have
