Thus the timecouting and date were bannished from the springboard, and all new versions were numbered backwards, all that just to keep forb.

TGA for sprites cause it's easier to work with.. not really fond of transparency, prefer having an alpha channel

Copied image from forums
Put into photoshop
Color range select white (100 feather)
copy result into a new smaller image (for some reason the original had a ton of whitespace)
Save image as png
Upload to ftp
Post on forums
Attempt to look like a hero
Profit.

Basically, I just converted it to a transparent png and removed the white + whitespace. Using anything other than png with the engine is pretty silly. Png is by far the most versatile (looks the best too) format we have access to.
Does not work for me. I maintain my title!

I cannot get the alpha/transparency/whatever to work. I've tried deleting it, even stepped into new territory with what I think was me altering an alpha channel.

I am confused and feel stupid.

Open image in photoshop. Double click background layer so that it changes to "layer 1".

You're trying to do it in the wrong image mode. Make sure that on the create new image dialog in photoshop, background is set to transparent instead of foreground or background. That will solve a lot of newbie mistakes.

I still don't really understand what was going wrong before, but I just started making new ones from scratch and it is working. After a good deal of tweaking, this is what I made.

Machine guns flares and jump jet flares!

Note: ignore the big stupid yellow blast in the first image, that will (now) be removed in due time.

Again, thanks a ton to everyone who helped iron this out. Confusing stuff :P

that big thing may be a medium thing up close, its hard to tell with cell shades. why do shadows not show up? you need to get a cell shader for shadows!

Because I turn off shadows. And yeah, the Honda is larger but not that much larger than the Hojo.

hmm, i dunno if u (should) care, but these effects look bit... too 'noisy' compared to the rest of stuff. maybe too detailed ? i think it could look better bigger.

They could use that old blob shadows lua.

if it's possible I'd render the muzzles without gouraud shading so they're always fullbright

Sanada, having shadows off completely changes the way stuff is rendered ingame. You need to be testing with shadows enabled and l view off.

You don't ahve to play that way, but you need to test that way for proper results.

@Rattle: what you're suggesting is basically ghetto cel shading, no?

pretty much.. for the muzzles at least. did anyone create a proper toon shader for use in spring yet?

i am sure you can get pretty cartoony effects (ie like in "worms world party") without needing new shaders.
ie the muzzle flashs on that pictures look too detailed, too "fuzzed out" for a cartoon look which can easily be changed with different sprite bitmaps...
