lol i figured out the altar thing, but have yet to put it to good use (i mean come on... the last one i did, i carried a damsel all the way to the top of the level... for spiked shoes)
and yeah, i figured out the mattock thing... seems its buried in the middle of the pit under the platform? very useful though, and i stumbled across it by accident.
i didn't realize the big spiders gave you the stickybombs, i generally just run away from them because they are scary. i did figure out that vampire bats in the second world drop capes though. my biggest discovery came from strange behavior of udjats in one of the levels in the second world though

you've discovered that too i hope

Went to the second world, even have the tunnel to it. Never reached third world.

The better the sacrifices, the less sacrifices you need. A live damsel insta-please the goddess. But if you bring cavemen, or worse, dead ones, then you need many of them.

ye; the altars seem to work like nethack.... the more you put on there, the more you get...
the second damsel got me a very, very interesting item indeed, one that i haven't seen in the dungeon before, and one that makes sacrificing those early extra HP actually worth it

I was loaded with items and on 4 hp and a vampire completely owned me.

Sacrificing stuff can get you huge ammounts of bonus HP, so it's pretty worth it all around if you can spare the life early game.

i just made it to level 12 without anything but udjats eye and a compass (and a pistol for most of the jungle); i got a ton of rescues, was at 7 hp... then i find an altar in the snow area crawling with yetis, so i think "hmmm lets milk this"...
massive greed induced yeti punch + stunned by a fall + eroding platform + fall stun + UFO lazor fail. about 3 seconds to erase all of my heroic effort

Just clocked it. Definately sacrifice the first two maidens you can.

thank you OP for making me a ruin of a man who cannot go a waking hour without gibbering about spikes and toads.
That vampire bat thing haunts my dreams.

Sticked for now in keeping with tradition of sticking topics for spectacularly amazing indie games.
