Btw: vastly enjoying the game so far, zoom is a tad constricted yes, playing chobosama on easy cause I was a total disaster in shogun 1.
I win battles manually now, but castle sieges are still best left to autoresolve.

Castle sieges are best avoided.
The AI doesn't usually sit too long in a castle, not unless you are threatening him with a large force. Try to lure him out first. I tried playing Date on legendary difficulty, and that was basically the only way I could take castles. Managed to take 4 provinces. Keeping them, however, proved even harder.

By the way is it me or did they make the Shogun orginal music worse?
They changed it a bit and now its much more mellow instead of sounding like actual battle music..

You'd prefer the puny AI clans just keep ignoring you and fall one by one?

Exactly!
Seriously though, I was just surprised how hard it was. In my campaign they didn't just declare war on me, they gave each other military access and massed all their armies together. I had to reload saves from 20 turns ago(2 times). I didn't beat it until I finally figured out to take kyoto fast and start making provinces that i took my vassals. I just defended kyoto essentially, which only worked because the AI is so buggy at attacking cities and too idiotic to just maintain siege.
