place in mods folder next to the zk.sdd
(.sdz are "packed" games, .sdd are kind of the "development version" of games, thats why you can see the files inside)
Strange that it doesnt show up.

You did already restart spring i guess?
Sorry, I meant to say I added the .sdz to the mods folder, launched Spring and tried to select it...but nothing showed up other than ZK.
Just to prove it's there...
baruch-stones-macbook:mods bstone$ pwd
/Users/bstone/.spring/mods
baruch-stones-macbook:mods bstone$ ls
XTAPEV96.sdz zk.sdd
Any ideas?

you could try some other games such as
http://springfiles.com/spring/games/bal ... ilation-20 see if they shows up...
Or maybe its something strange as that Mac OS X does not like the capital file names? Try renaming to xtapev96.sdz
The .sdz are just .zip files renamed to .sdz
So you could unpack them to a folder and rename that folder to blabla.sdd
(.sdd are just renamed folders) and see if that changes anything.

Strange. I renamed it .zip and expanded it into a folder, no love. Made it lowercase, no love. Also renamed it folder.sdd, no love. Maybe this game it futzed? Can you suggest another? Am I missing something?

Balanced Annhilation completely works. There doesn't seem to be any sound (or music) but the app works and I can build units....and it's just like TA was!!!

No, all those games should work fine.
If you download more maps, do they show up?
Ah cool that at least BA works. Did you place the xta file in the same folder? If yes, I cant see why only one of them would show up.
zero-k has higher system requirements, maybe your computer is too weak/graphics drivers outdated and that causes it to hang.
Balanced Annhilation does have no music but it should have sounds (weapons, explosions) Maybe sound is just very low? On windows you can set sound in springsettings.exe, on Mac no idea. Also F6 key toggles sound/mute.
Can you suggest another?
See

If you are feeling lucky, you can try this game I made:
http://springrts.com/wiki/Spring_Tanks
It comes with a single player but I've never tested that on a Mac. (start it on any map, then a menu should come up allowing to chose some matches)
Needs the mappack from
http://springrts.com/wiki/Spring_Tanks#Download unzipped into maps\ folder.

Sound is working on BA.
I wonder how good the single player mode of BA is. I'd love to battle against the computer player with skill.
Did place the XTA in the same folder. Unsure why it never worked. Will try your tank game.

I loaded the tank game and the maps. Tried to launch and got an error:
Setup-script does not exist in given location: "/Users/bstone/.spring/script.txt"

Setup-script does not exist in given location: "/Users/bstone/.spring/script.txt"
I assume that happend before you even got to a menu that looked liked this:
http://h-4.abload.de/img/spmenuwse0.png ?

In the third [select] box thing in menu (under the ones where you select game & map) select NullAI or Commanders. If that does not work, can you please tell what options there are in this selection box?

There are AI players:
http://springrts.com/wiki/AI:Skirmish some of them play quite decent.
A bit tricky to get them running/finding the correct one. You will probally want to use a lobby to set up the match vs an AI.
If you manage to get zero-K and its lobby to work, it has an easy to set up computer oponent called "CAI" as well as some survival mode.

I saw that image you linked to. It was after that image when things went wrong.
I have three AIs installed, but according to the website they don't do anything. How can I add actual AIs? I am unable to use the lobby on OS X it seems?

asked in chat about the script.txt thing, its a bug in the Mac version of Spring:
[01:50] [RoX]knorke could there be a reason why Spring.Restart might fail on mac os? [...]
[01:51] BrainDamage mac port is experimental
[01:51] BrainDamage and mac datadirs & fs scanner is slightly different
[01:51] BrainDamage so mac build has it's own set of bugs
cant do anything about it but wait until mac port is more stable.

you can try downloading the attached file and starting spring with its filename as parameter.
on windows that can be done by just dragging & dropping it on spring.exe
or in a console prompt by typing
spring.exe castle.txt
How it is done on a mac, i dont know. Appearently something like this:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Command_Line_Options
