Btw, I am a big TA fan. Imo it's the best RTS game evah. I still have the CDs and some mods and alternative AIs for it. Queller with 5000 units ... hmmm ...

Quite funny that I found this site by looking for another of my favourite games ... :-)

As I have almost finished porting D2X-W32 to Linux, I have renamed the whole project to D2X-XL to reflect both the broader scope of the project and the rich feature set exceeding that of all other D2X versions.

D2X XL is now available not only for MS Windows, but also for Linux and Mac OS X.

I happen to be a fan of the Descent series. I'm only sad that I can't find a way to play Descent 1 anymore. I've tried DOS emulators, but they don't work, and the game has too many problems just running it normally. I've tried D1x (a special modified version, kind of like D2x), but that won't run anymore, and I've tried things like porting to D2, but textures are crapped up, and it's still not the same. Right now, the only way I really have to play the old game is on an old laptop I have, but that has no sound, so it's still not that great.

Yes, I have Descent 3, but I don't care much for it, and I don't know where it is right now. Still, since I was little, I always thought Descent toys and a Descent movie would be really awesome.

Yeah, D1 was a great game. I'm fortunate enough to have an ancient computer sitting next to me that I use for old games (MoO2, ImpGal, Descent, etc), but I'm hopelessly addicted to using the mouse and it doesn't seem to work very well in D1. :(

Descent 2 multiplayer, I've never played a better multiplayer FPS game. IMHO, it blows Halo and everything else away. The variety of evil tricks that can be done with smart missiles alone.......

You can play D1 levels with D2X-XL, and though there are some differences, I am working on getting the game experience closer closer to the original D1. Next thing I will do is to look over the bot AI and bot sounds.

Hey, could you drop a link to some sort of progress log or your page so I can keep track of your work?

Also, I love making maps, but I have problems with that new DMB for XP thing (the one with all the new features like skyboxes and stuff). Often, when I try to set things like force tunnels or skyboxes, it won't let me, it just ignores me and sets them to default, and I cannot figure out why. But yea, Descent is a great old series. I wish I had an old enough computer WITH SOUND to play it (I have an old enough one, but its whole life, it's had sound failure). Too bad Interplay and every company to own it has failed and dropped off the earth.

OH! And interplay-related. Have any of you ever played Hostile Waters: Anteas Rising? Great game, and I found it at a Software Etc. for $1.99. Mmmm... good game.

D2X-XL version history: http://www.descent2.de/d2x-history.html

New D2X-XL level features are only available for levels of type 'D2X-XL'.

Either create a new level and select that type, or convert an existing level using the convert option in the file menu: The new level type will be displayed in the status bar. Conversion goes Standard -> Vertigo -> D2X-XL -> Standard. Just convert until the desired level type is stated in the status bar.

I played D3 and Mercenary for a long time, same with D2, extremely fun. One of my top games for sure. Freespace looks hot to, I'll download it, though downloading things that big dont exactly go fast on dial up, think 4kb a second for a 700mb file, yikes...gonna be rough.

EDIT: Fuck, It got corrupted at 200mb and I really dont feel like downloading for 4 days straight again. Shame, it sounded like fun.
