Sports leads the industry in sales by a large margin. Depending on the season Puzzle, Fighting and RTS would probably be at the bottom of the majors. This is of course assuming that people aren't hiding Fighting ( With TPS, Beat 'em Up, Party, etc.) inside of the Action supertype.
As for steam still sucking, it is a very different program now with the same basic functionality, I seldom even get the download problems of the past. I also have complete success with the offline functionality.

That's due to Electronic Arts being a huge faggot and spamming games like nymphoric rabbits. QQ

More due to the fact that people will buy them.

-took literally hours for "ive forgotten my password" email to arrive
-still takes 20 seconds to start (why? its just a launcher with build in webbrowser and firefox opens in 1 second/instantly)
-autostarts with windows (ok you can disable that but autostart by default is annoying)
-too much advert bla imo
download was really fast though.
now that i have a source engine game, can i finally play all those mods?
RTT are a much smaller niche than RTS.
The Commandos series was pretty popular though..and if you include turn based tactic games there are big names like Fallout, Jagged Alliance, Xcom etc
Sports leads the industry in sales by a large margin.
Would sport include racing games? Even if, first is probally FPS even on consoles nowadays. If you count third person shooter/action game (like GTA, God of War, Max Payne) and FPS as one genre I think that might even be 50% of all sales maybe.

think... might.... probably...
don't base yourself on personal experience
find sources

i dont know, i think personal experience is a source. if a racing game has has maybe 5 full servers and most gaming is organized league racing thats different to how there is always a ton of counter strike servers.
and in stores you always see a cardboard call of duty soldier, the drillguy from bioshock or something.
also if you google for "pc games charts" call of duty, battlefield and gta are always in the top 5.
http://www.gamestar.de/charts/
or look at the covers of game magazines.

Racing games aren't a dominant factor in the sports game market. The top selling sports game, for the longest time, by a wide margin, was FIFA World cup.

Sports by volume sometimes make as much as 70% of global sales if I'm not mistaken. The reason why magazines heavily advertise FPS, RTS and RPG is not because they are generally most popular but because they are popular among gamers willing to read gaming publications.

Casual games make more than both.

NO because the source sdk is not included.
What sucks most about steam is that I have to pay more than anywhere else and they dont have to press it on dvd and put it in a box and ship it to me.
Im talking about a maybe 15Ôé¼ difference

Yeah man I dunno, steam is usually the same price or cheaper for me.
Then again I buy games I'd never be able to find an any retail store

I never installed steam and I never felt like I was missing anything out.
I both pirate and buy games.

If you're a Valve fanboy you're missing out by not installing steam. I personally still believe valve has made the best PC FPS games ever to date by a fairly wide margin.

Now you are thinking with PayPalPortals
I consider myself quite the valve-fanboi, they really brought story telling in shooters ahead, but still steam is a firstclass rippoff, not matter how many free games they offer for the allowance to take my bleeding purse hostage.
This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here:
"HUGE SUCCESS!!"
It's hard to overestimate
my satisfaction.
Fiscal Science:
We do what me must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are ripped off.
But there's no sense crying
over every cheap take.
You just keep on trying
till you run out of fake.
And the money gets done.
And you make a neat run
from the people who are
still ripped off.
I'm not even angry...
I'm being so sincere right now-
Even though you broke my steam,
and killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
Now, these clouds of smoke
make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time!
So I'm glad I got burned-
Think of all the things we learned-
for the people who are
still not ripped off.
Go ahead and leave me...
I think I'd prefer your games to stay inside...
Maybe you'll find someone else
to help you?
Maybe piracy?
That was a joke! HAHA!! FAT CHANCE!!
Anyway this moneystake is great!
It's so malicious and lipwig from moist!
Look at me: still talking
when there's robbery to do!
When I look out there,
it makes me glad I'm not you.
I've sells to run.
There is ripoff to be done.
On the purses who are
still wealthy.
And believe me I am
still thrive.
I'm doing thieving and I'm
still doin it live.
I feel like bender and I'm
still gabes wife.
While you're starvin I'll be
still fatcat.
And when you're dead I will be
still alive.
Still alive.
Still alive.

Casual games do not constitute a genre, and a large number of "casual" games are sports games.

Which is incredibly sad - how many games like Boom Blox are going ignored because they're trapped in a genre that every sane gamer avoids like the plague?
The trick in PC-land has been to move "casual gaming" into "ambient gaming" - IE, casual, slow-paced games that have real artistry to them.
