I can't say I won't play it, it looks interesting, but I can say I don't think it carries the Xcom flag effectively.

Guys stop being so unkind to experience of making something new from good-ol games. I'm not fucking kidding - there was awful x-com enforcer fps. So 2k knows what they WILL NOT make with the series. A bad fps already was. I think if in 2k working not dumbs they will make something really good from x-com universe. Look at bioshock 2. :) Its not so bad.
Also here is video to that awful game

I think if they will make tactical shooter and somehow connect it with economical model of original x-com - this will be awesome. And I mean really awesome.

Actually I don't think X-Com Enforcer really was that bad. It's sort of a Serious Sam game where you just keep the fire button pressed while fighting buttloads of enemies from or inspired by the actual X-Com games. I actually enjoyed it and some boss battles were pretty good in my opinion. It of course is no gem in gaming history but I wouldn't call it a failure either (while I sure would have preferred to get X-Com Alliance instead). Just a simple mindless action spin-off...
Considering the footage of the recent "X-Com" game the main problem is that they've taken everything away that X-Com was about except for the alien invasion setting. The actual gameplay is about running around with your shotgun shooting at slime dramatically (and utterly slowly) killing cartoony looking people / infesting them (whatever it is they do there). The entire point of "finding them" as advertised in the trailer sounds shallow to me. Either you just follow the big black trail of slime they leave or you look for infested people. The latter might get interesting but when looking at the way things get presented here I smell another bad pseudo open world thingy (because otherwise when being mission/story based like Bioshock "finding them" isn't going to be a big deal)...
BTW - here's the a working video link for those who didn't watch it yet as the video from the first link seems to have been deleted:

Okay everyone, I take back what I said. Upon further research, they aren't in fact actually "stealing the name" to cash in on an IP (of questionable modern value) and shit in our beds.
See, I was mistaken all along. The old game we know and love? That's X-COM. This new one? XCOM. No hyphen.
I feel like such a douche now.

EA hasn't been as evil recently. Activision is the most evil publisher right now.

You mean Activision Blizzard. Which in turn is a subsidiary of Vivendi.

How did that ever happen, anyway? Blizzard couldn't run out of money if they tried. What incentive could they possibly have to taint their reputation by tying themselves to Activision? It's like if Valve announced they were merging with EA.

Blizzard was already owned by Vivendi, as of the purchase of Havas in 1998. I don't think the decision was their own.
