I use edits all the time cause I invariably type something with clouded meaning or leave out important parts. That is valid.
I've seen caydr do exactly what the mods described, so I can't disagree with the punishment.

On the edit wars: You posted some borderline backseat moderation in a thread titled "Moderation", I was going to do something about it, but decided to give the benefit of doubt. Then you went back and about 5 posts later edited it to something clearly inflammatory.
If I understand correctly, this thread here is the one which led to my ability to edit posts to be taken away?

edit: could you please be more specific in what I did that caused you to remove my ability to edit posts? I skimmed the thread and I see nothing we have a rule against.
Adding things to posts after they've been posted is the whole purpose of the edit button. My doing so is in no way a violation of any rule on this forum, written or implied.
Regarding TAU, my experience there was like this: I questioned a then-administrator's choices in moderation, he massively abused his power to make me look like a douchebag (editing my posts, posted in my name, etc), and destroying my reputation. He has since been removed from having any privileges and just mentioning his name is enough to start a fight. Nobody connected the dots between these two incidents because they happened a few years apart, so my name is still tainted. I only wonder how many other times he abused his power before someone with some authority noticed.
It reminds me of what I see happening here now. I've seen posts modified or removed with no explanation and no public accountability. With the exception of Sinbad's modifications a couple pages ago, I disagree with the manner in which moderators here use their powers. Posts are often removed in their entirety with only a "post deleted" left behind, destroying the substance of the message entirely because they personally disagree with it.
I posted a thread in off topic which was locked because the moderator felt it might be too controversial. What kind of justification is that? And then another thread is left open, in which the poster suggests that the US Government is planning the mass-extermination of its residents. And now you've indefinitely, unilaterally taken away my ability to edit posts without explanation or warning because it's just too dangerous to leave my ability to correct grammar and spelling in my hands.

SinbadEV wrote:As I was not the one who did it I can neither confirm-nor-deny the reason for the action (or even if it was taken on purpose)... I would say that I see the point... if a User has been reverting posts or posting things that are offensive and then "un-posting" them by editing... which makes moderation more difficult as other Users might see and be offended by something and then said problem was removed by the Poster and as such the... person has been offended but there is... I've lost my train of thought here... I think this coke hasn't kicked in completely yet.
IF in fact this had happened, you would notice "edited by caydr at xx:xx:xx" in the posts in the thread cited, since they would have been made AFTER another post was added to the thread. Please kindly check the thread that was just cited, there are NONE on posts I made.
What is this nonsense? Can the person that took away my ability to edit posts kindly try to come up with some kind of real justification for doing so or at explain why he thinks doing so will in any way affect my use of this forum besides an exponentially increasing post count?

caydr, if the edits happen soon enough, that text doesn't show up. You know that as well as I do.

i think its about a 5 minute give in that you can edit your post as many times as you want within that time and it wont show as edit, or it could be if someone replies to your post, im not sure.

You know, it occurs to me that we have an even worse tool at our disposal which I have prevented the use of thus far.
We can require posts to be approved by moderators before they're even seen.

Instead of PMing him with a clear clarification of what exactly he did you subtly mention that you have a even bigger stick to beat him with?
Pathetic, especially from you.

This is bullshit, the "edit" mark appears always when there was a post posted, no timer involved after the post you are currently editing. Unless the recent forum update changed that which I doubt.

I'm not doing anything to him. I'm just saying, we do have a tool we do not deploy. It has nothing to do with my moderation since I do not advocate it, I mentioned it as a point of interest which this discussion reminded me of.
What is pathetic is trying to frame me as a belligerent, or perhaps the interpretation of my statement as a threat.
This discussion does raise some interesting points, I might continue my moderation policy reforms. I ceased work on that front because I realized that they would, as products of realistic compromise, please nobody. What further reforms do come through will not be applicable to past activity, however.
If you have suggestions, feel free to message them to me. I will probably not respond, and I do not promise that they will be implemented, but as with the moderation nominations I oversaw, I welcome the input of any and all. I was moderately pleased with the response to the nomination request, by the by, I had several score suggestions and a lot of supplementary data.

How else to interpret it? It makes no sense just to mention as a "btw we can also do this or this" in this situation when nobody explained to him what exactly he did.
It's no point of interest, just provoking for no reason.

I was musing on the form of control the removal of edit powers exhibits, and I remembered this other tool. I suggested it for the management of Rantei and Emmanuel in the past, but nothing came of it. It was relevant to some of the content of the discussion, and certainly nobody thinks about it. Perhaps I should have made a new thread, but I'd like to think related thought can be perceived as such.
Edit: Nice Edit. It is a point of interest to the moderation capability element of the discussion.

The edit message only shows up if you edit a post when someone has posted after it in the thread. Duh.

Yeh I was gonna say. You do actually have to edit your post for the edit message to appear
