I know this because I'm working on it, and I promoted the ladder actively when it was around. Ladders are valuable to those who value a system of arbitrary measurement, that doesn't change the fact that they're pointless.

Ladders are no more pointless than playing overall. But its more exciting to play games that isnt just another practice game. Even if it didnt really matter to me how highly ranked i am in comparison to others it makes you try your best which is cool.
