Re: when Star Wars:Imperial Winter will be released?

The argument behind not currently releasing is that we strongly believe we've got one big shot at a succesful release; the star wars name and our screenshots are enough for a lot of people to think 'what the hell, I'll give this a shot' - but the state of our release is not at a level which would keep those players who are giving it a shot out of passing curiosity. Most of the core work is done, but little polishing has been done. We still haven't implemented the cool stuff that everyone wants to play with into balance builds (x-wings, atst's, etc). Its definitely enough for any current spring players to work out and happily play with, but its important to realise that the big advantage we have over many other mods is that our major audience are people who have probably never even heard of spring. They won't have the patience for an incomplete interface or glaring bugs/issues - things that are par for the course for current spring players.
That's why we've got the closed beta. Our intention there was to slowly expand that until finally allowing most people who had applied (but importantly not being a release, still application only). Then, while the larger player base was finetuning balance, we'd spend our time polishing the final product to make it as idiot-proof and user-friendly as possible. We were going well with that until various RL issues cropped up for gnomre and myself, several months ago. Now we're getting back into the swing of things and hope to return to that original plan.
