Just ask a few actually good players to play a game which will be commented or take a replay where only top players are playing.
Commenting DSD games is really silly.
unless its a 2v2/3v3.
Even than,its hardly a typical game for a 2v2/3v3.
Anyway very nice of you to do this.
This is a great start of some sort of tutorial maybe?

top players are not always interesting. sometimes some games are just fun to watch.

I think I prefer smaller games for commenting. less fronts to try to simultaneously explain, more time to go into the details of reason and strategy of each player, time and space to point out exceptional moves, and less phenomena of horrible play by players in a bubble doing their own thing with basically no attention or intelligence paid to the rest of their team. Team games are great games to play, but they are a bit complicated to observe.

Ya, the TS sounds have to go, at least during recording.

Great players in RTS are interesting, usually just because it's interesting to understand why what they are doing works. It's not like FPS where 99% of what's going on is reaction time, there's an immense amount of logic and planning that goes into it. You could write fairly reasonable books on build orders pro players use in starcraft.

This should be widgetable once LuaMsg is fixed. In fact I might write it.

Just wanted to add some support here - that DSD match you guys went through was pretty cool to watch; it was fun for me, as a mod dev who hasn't played *A seriously since AA 1.46 days, to hear some of what's going on in the DSD matches that are complained about so often.

My only suggestion would be with the setup, but I'm not really sure how to fix it. When you have multiple commentators but the viewer only sees the view of one of them, it sometimes leads to a weird disconnect where the video I'm watching is looking at a skirmish in the north west, while another commentator is talking about a fight in the east part of the southern plains.

Not a huge deal, this was fun. I'd love to see some 'pro' level 1v1s talked through in this way.

currently downloading the dsd movie...

the videos on youtube were good but could do with a closer zoom.
of course we know how the units look like but not everybody does. might make it more interessting for new players..?

I also did a commented replay.
The game was played (and commented) yesterday in the night right after returning home so the skill is not very good. It was more meant as a test / joke but I think ill post it anyway...
Its 70MB for a 6 minutes video.

Oh, its in german but perhaps its still fun to watch?
Guten Tag, hier kommen die Panzer
http://www.megaupload.com/de/?d=IQITZLCD
(enter the 3 letters on the top right, then press download and wait for the countdown to finish)

I had to change springs resolution to 640x480 so fraps could record it, that explains the giant ressource bar and buttons.

Is there a way to switch off all ingame interface, but the minimap?
The attack/move etc menu is a little annoying sometimes...

It might be educative for new players to see commentated 6v6+ DSD games. You could remove the /info so player names wouldn't show, and then harshly comment on the noobs porcing in corner while teammates get slaughtered. :P

I agree; commentating pub DSDs isn't bad as long as the commentators take the failec0n/pr0cers apart like Flash in a wind farm.

Okay, I really should have had another video by now, im trying to get these shipped out as fast as possible.

The main reason for why there arn't any updates are because i'm :

A) using vista.

B) From using vista apparently there are layers to your screen and went i try to screen cap spring with some softwear it just shows a black screen with mouse movements. (FRAPs fixes this problem but it only seems to record in 5 minute sections with gaps in between.)

C) virgin, my ISP is ripping up and relaying internet connection and so i've only had 2 hours of internet in the past 3 days.

so at the moment editing video wise is down to wingflier, whos doing a pretty damn good job. (need a good compressor for the video though avi is WAY to big).

Things that have changed:

*NO MORE TEAMSPEAK NOISES.
*Looking for 2v2s rather than 6v6 games, as requested by you guys.
*Ideas for commented staged games (e.g. two players will play a match with a small script of things to do showing off specific tactics to make a good video, commentate over it to look like it was real and post it on youtube, or as a promotional video here.)

If anyone wants me to commentate a game that will be playing soon, please do ask.

In spring client my tag is [roll]Shift[NOTA] so look out for me and keep some 2v2s set up!

this is cool stuff
commentary needs to sound manically excited (see starcraft/football)

I liked the British accent on that dsd video. Cool stuff, only thing similar I've watched was Razer TSL and that was AWESOME.

Are you guys taking requests? I've got some replays of some epic games that could benefit from a neutral commentary.

Sure, we haven't done many saved replays, only live stuff.

I was thinking, would it work with more commentators? e.g. 3? 4? or less 1 maybe?

or are you happy with two main speakers with guest appearances.

The reason I ask is because at the moment i seem to be the only one online, and i'm willing to do it on my own but i may get boring and hard to keep bringing new material on which to comment on if i'm doing it on my own.
I don't mind doing it on my own though, i'm quiet able to do it.

We really need more people to get on this commentating thing.

I think 2 commentators were enough on that DSD replay I watched.
