Who are these 'they' exactly? The same 'they' who predicted Y2K by any chance?

Some guys in discovery channel. I think its a fairly reasonable possibility considering octopus are smart enough to drag rocks to the front of their cave entrances cause they know that will make the hole smaller and thus it will be harder for predators to get then... altough octopus have short lifes and are not sociable so I suppose its not that easy :)

They dont really manage to observe the real things tough, right? At least in the documentaries I saw they said that they had only found huge lost tentacles and babies.

Yep, from what I've read, no one's actually been able to observe a full grown colossal squid.

It says that one is only 10 m. when estimates are that the largest squids are supposed to be 12-14 m. Maybe it's not fully grown.

There is no need, they already freezed, unfreezed and opened the poor thing... I wonder why the fisherman didnt tried to take it back alive instead of freezing it...
