Hmm, but could I make a cd, with gundam, spring and several maps etc, then include an installer that puts them all together for the user? That would allow me to make a free and easy to setup distro for gundam.

I'm pretty sure that'd count as aggregation so it would be fine.

This is a very good idea. For srsly.
Would be a great idea to have Spring, a bunch of mods, most popular maps all on a CD. Maybe even get a nice little cover printed on the CD. Then, print out a user guide, buy a bunch of empty DVD cases, and print some DVD covers.
You could then distribute it (maybe just $5 (or less) to cover the cost of the materials.
Or, not even go that far, just do the CD part. I would totally hand it out to a bunch of friends or random people. Maybe even make a bunch of CD's and offer them free somewhere.
etc. etc.

As previously discussed, handouts are not as readily accepted as somehting with a monetary value on it. Charge ppl a couple bucks for it can call it a day.

That would be me

I think that an official .ISO image would be great for distributing Spring. It would help heaps whenever people go to LAN parties etc. Spring with a few of the best mods (BA, stable CA, EE, PURE ...), lots of good maps and other fun bits.

People who buy things have also another attitude towards the creators.
Fix it or i call my Lawyerz
But still selling Spring is a good Idea.. People tend to contribute more time into the learning curve, once the paid for something.

I actually think that selling spring and everything made for it would be a huge mistake and actually damages the mods spring is built under. By doign this you're cutting out 90% of the marketability of each mods ability to stand as a game in its own right.
Instead we should be selling Kernel panic or EE or gundam or CA as a game in its own right, if anything it would help the artwork process greatly, as well as vastly increasing the attractiveness of that game and the re-sellability of spring itself.
What DVD case has the most appeal? A highly co-ordinated cover for P.U.R.E or an arcade game style mishmash of 15 mods? Since when ahs the 100 arcade games in one box ever looked more professional and desirable than say Unreal Tournament 3 or Hellgate?
Go ahead with your selling spring as a collection of games idea if you want but I believe that every individual mod has so much more to gain by creating their own iso images and selling themselves rather than the entire community. Don't be brought down by other mods and content and the 'lets be fair' paradigm and instead cater to your own content for maximum gain, because at the end of the day that's what will benefit our community.
