I've had balls to the wall "team" games, but that would be when all my allies left...

I've never in my spring career had a team game that was balls-to-the-wall intense enough that typing messages and putting pointers wasn't efficient.
How many times per a team game to you tutor an ally while still managing your own econ? How many times do you call shots for an ally's micromanagement? How often do you even coordinate an attack? It doesn't happen much, more because while sure, I have time to type the message, my ally may/may not have time to read it, and generally people know in spring, there's maby a 50% chance any given request/order you give to an ally is even noticed.

The reason for VOIP being useful in spring is different from it being useful/useless in FPS games, but it's still completely valid. You try to ignore a persistent dude voice spamming you to rush your units in for a coordinated attack.

coordinated attacks are pretty easy to do without voip.

SLEKSA'S HOWTO GUIDE ON MAKING COORDINATED ATTACKS.

1)*add point*
2)a: MOVE GATER THERE NOW COMM ALONE IN MIDDLE!!!11111
3) move gaters towards the point
4) wait for the ally if he's further away
5)?????
6) profit.
How many times do you call shots for an ally's micromanagement?
im not 100% sure what you mean by this but i usually just spam add points if i see my ally's jeffies/raiders/cons idle
and generally people know in spring, there's maby a 50% chance any given request/order you give to an ally is even noticed.
i think the warc have around 90% chance to have add points noticed, and spamming then usually results in 100% notice ~~

also integrated VOIP system is not that great of an idea when you can easily just use teamspeak/skype/whatever instead of making extra work requests for our Hard-working devs ;]]]

Work for players > work for devs. Work is expected out of devs, making work for players however is just bad development.

Like all spring features, it's really only something worth doing if someone wants to take the time to do it though. Spring development isn't supposed to be a chore any more than playing it is, but that being said, devs are working for fun.

well yeah, im not against it if the devs really want to do this stuff but i think there are better things the devs could work on, and tbh i've seen more games using ts/ventrilo than i've seen in-game-voip's. ! :)

Ive played dozens of team games with voice chat at best it ends up as "Hey did you see that point i just put down....uhh yeah the one just above your base there...yeah thats the one...uhh yeah it was a weasel or something"

As for co-ordinating 'grand strategy', it dosent exist. 99% of the time your allies are going to have troubles of their own to deal with and they cant magically conjure up an army to help with your side.

And if they can - Why haven't they already won?

Most people on the internet are annoying fuckwads whom I hate and want to stab in the face. I do not want to be forced to listen to them while playing a game.

edit: I just imagined what a voice enabled spring game would sound like:

Sleksa yelling at some noob about how he should micro, Isaac drunkenly yodeling, Neddie trying to pacify Crappage who is getting pissed off at Fang, while Smoth is trying to have a conversation about balance with Zsinj. rAndy is giggling like a schoolgirl while his weasels are driving around Cabbages base killing his mexes, jj is complaining that the game had more than 0 starting resources, some random guy is frantically asking about why his t2 lab is building so slowly. In the background you can hear most of the goats scheming some kind of forum heist while fox and shox are talking about their exploits in some completely other game.

Yeah. Don't do integrated VOIP pls.

No because then they would kick me for not replying/obeying the agreed on central strategy that they devised assuming everyone on their team could hear them.

I think voip would help people to get to know one another better but it would be annoying to have non English speakers in the chat(ESP if they can speak English they just don't because they are being secretive) The ability to be in separate rooms or even mute people would be important. Also the audio would be a bit much for me. I am already on teamtalk, have musing playing etc.

I don't want crappage interrupting my jpop so he can tell me about furries.

Yeah, you already know about those XD

But yeah, you do make a valid point. Even in games where it's normally used well, you occasionally get retards who think it's amusing to spam "Random crap I'm listening to". Same applies on TS, Team Talk and vent though.

For anyone interested in a good public Ventrilo server. I own a 50 slot one, used to be the [NR] server, but since [NR] is pretty much dead (some of us still appear and disappear at random...)

And seeing as how clan activity has dropped off to nothing, the server is currently unused and draining my bank account, and I would rather share it with others than simply shut it off. So if anyone is interested...

The Server is called "The Drunken Clam"
IP/Hostname: voice07.hurricanehost.com

Port: 3956

No PW

There you have it guys. I didn't feel like making a seperate thread so this one should be fine.
