Well... I agree there seems to be a trend towards diagnosing virtually every minor deviation from mental normalcy as a disorder of some type. That being said, PTSS has massively negative effects on people who suffer from it, so it's beyond the realm of innocuous psychological disorder IMO.
I tend to believe that normalcy isn't a reasonable prerequisite for psychological health. The ability for different people to approach different problems in totally different ways is part of why humanity has survived as long as it has. Adaptability caused by deviancy is an immensely positive thing within the species. The symptoms of PTSS are beyond normal deviance however... I think it would be hard to find a more solid example of true psychological damage.
