Because it was in the TA options too.

Because Chris Tailor doesn't storyboard our games for us.

Pretty much. You write a campaign, maybe you get the rights to mandate ends within it. Next buzzkill!

The whole point of TA is that the Arm fights the Core, so how come I see Arm and Core players on the same team? And what does one make of free-for-alls?

Because it's quite dumb to have all units self-destruct just because their boss died, especially for Core?

Well not really, the storyline of TA is that the commander is YOU, he makes all the decisions, keeps everything going. So why should units stay when he pops?

The answer is Comm Ends should be the only option but many many people think it isn't fun, that is why TA had it, that is why we have it. But i still hate it, why make a story like it, yet include an option to keep going when you die, makes the story a bit pointless. Infact makes the game kinda pointless.

Flame me and call me dumb all you want, but you all know what i just said is the exact truth :)

Options are good, too less options is bad.

IMO, Default setting should stay as Com-Continues.

Com-Continues is the best way for Pub play games to work, and is the most friendly way to play a normal game.

Com-Ends is more specifically suited to the "Elite" and competitive 1v1 players and Ladder games.

For all the "elite" players, if you want to set Com ends for your games, there is nothing stopping you from doing just that.

Just don't try to enforce your Elite way of gaming on the general public.

We are were for the game, not for the story, and com ends makes it quite boring. Its only good in small games in small maps to avoid people combombing.

I suppose I'd rather see changes made to the mod balance to make the Commander easier to protect (there are lots of changes you could make) rather than the nerf him to the point where he's completely expendable and people are prepared to throw him away. Everytime I'm playing a large team game and it gets to 10 minutes and people start typing stuff like "a: OK, I'll comm bomb him in 1 sec. Get your tanks ready on the left" I just cringe. That's not what TA was all about.

The problem with large team games is the more players in the game the less impact you can have. You're largely at the mercy of the quality of your allys, or the poor quality of your opponents.

But that's what's gotten popular. Can't go against the whole community out there. I was just making the point that in Total Annihilation Comm Ends was the default. Comm Continues was a non standard setting. But in Spring it's the other way round so all the noobs who join the community see that as the precedent. You're not going to like Comm Ends if you've never played anything but Continues. Ends takes a little more discipline. It takes time to develop a taste for it.

Wtf? This topic has degraded into an arguement about com ends relation to the original TA storyline?
+100 phailpoints.

I play both Commander Ends and Continues, and I see no reason to have either as a default over the other. I also don't believe that either requires more discipline, simply that each of us favours one or the other and has learned to better work with one.

Problem is that I think that there MUST be a default... :)

So...

Have any mods tried actually reducing the commander explosion? That change alone would make comm-bombing stupid and give you a huge reason to keep your comm in base.

Uhm. Yes, yes some have.

The fact is that there is no setting that everybody will be happy with. Live with that defeat.

Thats true. Some settings may please more people than others, but there will always be unhappy people yelling at moders/programmers/mappers/etc.

I SO AGREE.
