Uhh, this "Spring" game you all like to play seems to have a negative overall impact on development..
I expect to have the site done (PHP) within 1 a 2 weeks. Then the bottleneck will be on the video's and site translations. (and possibly a theme or two but we don't need that from the start)

Well, I'm talking about a video that serves as a trailer for Spring that people can look at on Youtube, or Revver, or whatever we decided on using. Something that we can link to in a digg post.

People respond immediately to Youtube links because they know that they're getting a video, they don't really have to expend a lot of effort to access and read.

Video's would need to be hosted on Google video for the site.
Your free to do both (post your video on dig and put it in the site).

Except, of higher quality, and better encoded and what not.
What better way to herald this release than with a new trailer.

Here's what we need to do though; get started on this trailer now, meaning I need to get all the shiny things being developed for .75 and start recording them.

Things that I would like to have in order to make this look good.

Latest EE Beta with New Race
Latest SWTA Beta
Latest 1944 Beta
Any secret epic projects that would look good in a showcase.
Pop onto #s44. :-)

well now

 How nice for all of you, this is just what Spring needs, more newbs, if you are going to try advertising, make sure they get pointed towards a GOOD newb guide BEFORE they download the game. Another issue seems to be, if people want to make a map, the guides in my opinion are hard to follow, in a seemingly easy program. For another example, modding also could be improved scripting is just pathetic, and it's not just me. We are using a 10 year-old scripting format for a relatively new game, if you want it to truely be a GPL game, which I DON'T consider it to be you need to get working on this ASAP. As far as desyncing goes, I have NEVER had an issue with it, if people desync, 93% of the time it is either their fault or the host's fault. RESYNCING on the other hand is just stupid, it would end up doing 2 things: Causing lag, because it would require extra data to be sent, and waste because desyncing can also be caused by CPU cores overheating, resyncing would take more power on everyone's part. If it is bandwidth, why are you using dial-up or satellite internet in an online game?

rcdraco, there is not one word of what you said abour resync that is not profoundly wrong. You are either trolling, or very, very ignorant. The issues at hand are complicated enough without the random word groups you post.

HELP with the new site, you can write a GOOD newb guide if you like.

Draco, that's bullshit. Resyncs would only happen after a desync so there would be no lag unless you manage to make it desync every second or so.

Lol, so the license depends on the age of the scripting language

It's a fairly decent scripter, I can do what I need to and get by with it..

It's passable for simple stuff but complex animations are better done with a real animation suite. I think we need to find a way to make COB extendable, AFAIK noone knows how to maintain Scriptor anymore, right? We'd need a language that's alive and extendable while still being good for interacting with the pieces of an object. Perhaps extending Lua to cover COB's current usages would be a good idea for that purpose.

What makes you so sure desynch cannot happen every second or so? My Spring racers mod often desynch during the first second of play....

I think this thread is more for discussing advertising, not for ranting about...whatever the hell you were going on about there...

Heh, and you say spring cannot be GPL because bos is 10 years old? I do ask you, kid, what interesting substances are you under the influence of? Is spring outdated because C++ is 25 years old? ^_^

As for resync...lurk moar, that is all I can say to you.

I think the relevance of the license discussion right now bears no reseblence to the issue at hand.

Its all just an attempt to buff your postcounts, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves!

Please return to the topic. I've been managing some other things the past few days, but after I unwind with some content testing and dwarf fortress, I'll continue to deal with your points.

Draco does have a good point with the guides for new players, and I'm glad he raised it. I am working on a complete rewrite of the Strategy section and seven separate text/pdf guides, some with images. I also have a comic sketched, though my art skills are none too sharp. Cup also asked me to give him a write up for new members in lobby, and I'm working on that as well.

If Ivory will work on another guide or two, we should have enough.

This is what I mean, I don't mean to make you angry or anything, but I mean, a diffferent script format, sure bos and cob are fine, but a script language that works, as Argh has said before, the scriptor program is not perfect, so we either need a new scriptor, or we need a new scripting language, that we can control properly. And I will say it again, I do not have issues with desync, I used to see it happen in v72 and under, it was very rare, and when it did happen, people were either resynced quickly, or desynced and dead. It also happened on test build day, about 3 weeks ago, and that makes sense, it was either the host, the player, or the spring version. And the reason why I used colors, and bold was because it seems to me like some people around here find it easier to read, and figure out my point.

And it's like I always say, if it ain't gonna get done, do it yourself. So, I think I'll write that newb guide and post it on either this site (and watch it get removed), or post it on my site.

And as far as advertising goes, I could record some EE, Gundam, War Evolution, heck even some of my pet projects  .

Well be seeing you all, not sure when. Don't wait up.

rc, just because you cannot use it does not make it broken.

neddie, I am most annoyed to report my video work has been stifled by only 2 of the three demos that I have recorded in combination with the fact that I have not received many demos to use as video/screen shot fodder. I have requested replays only to receive a small handful as of yet.

If someone else is going to make a replay of 1.11 let me know otherwise I will have to once again divert efforts from development to game playing to get fodder videos so I can make the damnable thing.

well

Nice to see the release is out, just like spring to instantly need a bugfix. The scripting format is not broken. read what I post, don't just take it as crap. The scripting format is good, but not GPL. And as far as what you could do to improve it, using lua instead, would be a start, as far as making it easier. To my knowledge that could hold the scripting and the fbi file, and not need to use scriptor and have it compiled. Also, LUA tutorials for spring are needed, unless they are made already, in that case you need more. I like the game itself, but so much needs to be improved. If you don't know what needs to be improved, you haven't been playing spring very long, and yet again. what is the point of resync, when it has never desynced, at least in my games that I've played, figure out what causes it, maybe too many units on screen, physics lag, etc. If it doesn't occur in my small unit games, heck even my mods, I've never had issues. Desync is clientside, not serverside it seems.
