get the tilesets

the Dwarf Fortress Easy Pack makes it look 999% less like ball!
haha catching the invading gobilins with cages, then releasing them one by one into a room of angry dwarves gives me that warm dungonmaster feeling

i made 2 things on how to torture the captured goblins and lizardmen and gremlins and god knows what.
first is a arena, ill put down 2 cages and link them to a lever and then i watch them hack eachother
another one is a moving-target-practice track for my fortress guards and marksdwarves >:D

Whoohoo I haven't run my fort into the ground so far! I just get summer and I have 41 dwarf's! :D
Soon I am gonna need to get more houseing/Food/wood-piles
I have a small group of miners that mow through stone it's just fun when you see progress.
Currently I am past the river and I got a buncha random dwarfs farming so I don't end up dieing in the end.
Oh in a related note to the river, a Corc attacked and I had a fresh unarmed recruit Punch it's lights out! now he has a spear but I haven't had any thing else attack so far.
Military! 3 recruits 1spear/2Crossbow 1 Wrester with a spear, I will not be distroyed!
also after i figure out how I will post a picture of my fort!
(Whats his name "Jeweler" has been Possisesed)
(Whats his name "Jeweler" Clamed what ever station)
(Whats his name "Jeweler" Has made a Alamaist(?) ring)
I have no idea what to make of that jeweler.

Dwarves can go into "moods" which means they take control of a workshop and will collect a bunch of materials and create a legendary item
This usually ends up with the dwarf them self becoming legendary and working at their profession ridiculously fast. But when they are possesed tehy just make the item and their stats dont get affected.

what labour type makes em attatch leavers to doors etc? i couldnt figure out what job type it was, just had to give everyone everything till it got done
making farms is horrible, both my attempts resulted in my fortress going on a magical journey under the sea

Mechanic's job makes them attatch them, you can read what job is required to do it by pressing T or Q and hovering over the item.
If you flooded your fortress that means you have a "leak" in the room you want to flood, the room should not have a way to get into other parts of your fort. build a door or a 1x1 to block the water from getting away.
http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index. ... d_flooding
try to follow this guide.

Is there a way to add skills to a dwarf once the game has started?
Because I dont have a mechanic, so I can't build floodgates.
Posted: 28 Jun 2007, 17:34

masons build floodgates, mechanics link them to levers.
you can change professions by pressing V and the going over the dwarf you'd like to do that task and then pressing l and p for professions.

Well, this solves that bottleneck which built up when my carpenter died by flooding.

how effective is using a river for a defence system? Like right now im building everything on the right sight of the cave river and the narrow 1x-12989023840219384 hallway is just going to be a huge active 'moat'. How effective is it?

In my experience you are better off making the fort as functional as possible, rather than easiest to defend. A huge narrow corridor like that will probably make your fort more likely die of starvation from traffic jams than protect against invaders.

Then I'll make it a wide corridor of destruction!!!
Edit: they wont die of starvation though becuase I have a like a 12 by 6 farm which connects to an 8 by 6 foodstorage which is connected to a 10 by 10 dinning hall. o_O.
