Hardcore gamer to me means a gamer who is or is trying to be at the leading edge of what he plays. that could be trying to get a 100% completion of FFVII or it could be playing counterstrike for money

console players are inherantly less hardcore though because they trade quality and precision control for acessibility and instant gratification

ok;

console controls are less presice and flexible than mouse/keyboard and as a result the games are simplified. just compare deus ex pc to the console version.
(new) consoles are aimed at casual gamers
old retro consoles generally had near impossible games so there was skillz

Console controls are precise at what they are meant to do, e.g. an analog stick is more precise for relative movement than a keyboard. Of course an analog stick isn't meant for pointing at stuff, that's what the Wiimote is for.

Yes, you can be hardcore PLAYING the Xbox360 and.. being hardcore at it.

But, owning one does not mean you are insta-hardcore...

In the end, there would never be an accurate poll to do this.

Each person has their own ideas of the different ranks of gamers, and how hard you have to play to be hardcore.

My poll phails ^.^

Yeah and your definition of hardcore was chosen so it includes you.

I didn't vote for hardcore, though...

I don't always go looking for gems, and I haven't been able to make a 3:1 KDR in any game I have played recently. I think I am hardly hardcore, even by my own description.

Haha, the "you mus pwn them all games" concept was invented by purepwnage becouse it's a cool fantasy. In reality a hardcore gamer is someone who plays ONE game to the limit. Playing more then one game really well sounds cool but then you will more likely in reality suck at all of them with 10^99:1 certainty. Ever heard of someone who's a top fotball player, tennis master, and swimming record holder etc? No, only casual people play multiple types and therefore excel at none, in sports and computer games the same. The opposite of hardcore.

The reason is simple, if you concentrate all on one game, you get better at it then if you spread on over multiples. Only a god would be able to beat everyone (humans) at every game, but whats the point with that since he would probably loose to another god who just plays one game anyway.

I think the ease and decreased realism of computer based controls makes games generally easier and less interesting than console equivalents, at least in titles produced before the general quality of games tanked, in the mid 90s.

There gamers good at all games, it´s like it is in their genes. I am not one of them however.

Well, there is something in what Zpock says. Take me for example; I play virtually every game on this engine. I range between mediocre to slightly above average in most of them, but my skill in any one is not equivalent to that of a specialist.

The big difference between a top football player and a top player at any particular game is that the football player gets paid and gets laid, while the gamer gets neither.

lol, who actually has time to play all these games. It's ironic really, when I was 13 I had all the time in the world to play games but no money to buy them. Now I have money but no time :(

Oh and Snipa, you might consider yourself hardcore but are you elite?
