But if I ditch Dkok, I have to ditch the Gorgon, Centaur and Macharius!
I suppose I could just make up my own regiment though that would let me keep them.
And why do you protest against the Death Korps of Kreig anyways?

First, they're total ripoffs of Imperial Germany and slightly less so, Nazi Germany.
Second, they just aren't
the Guard. They're somewhat too l33t to be. Guardsmen need to be the most basic grunts imaginable who really suck at everything and phail completely at life and whose only saving grace is that there are more of them than stars in the sky. DKoK just doesn't seem Guardish to me. Cadians, now, or something similar (ie pre-plastic Cadians) is Guard to me...
Anyway those tanks are cool but there's cooler

but I know I'm not going to change your mind (though maybe I can convince you to do more than one Guard choice...)

That would take forever and would up the filesize rather pointlessly (unless released as mutators or something).
And yet... it's so incredibly tempting...

Actually Death Korps look more like WW1 French than anything else.

I always imagined that the Guard
were competent, but their enemies were just so badass that they died in droves anyway

It doesn't help that their officers are mostly incompetent, and use strategies that are usually endless variations of 'Charge forward and get slaughtered!'

If you've read some of the Dan Abnett's novels (Black Library), you'll find that there are competent guardsmen, and competent officers. All of them aren't competent, of course, but they are neither all badass.
Concerning the look of the DKoK, it's a mix of French WW1 soldiers (The coats) and German WW1 soldiers (The helmets). Even if they aren't the best guardish-looking, thanks to Forgeworld, they've got tons of extra tanks, stuff and so, that could be used in Spring.

Why not just create all the IG vehicles and varients and the player can decide what regiment to emulate by which vehicles they decide to build? (I really have no experience with WH40K besides what I read on Wikipedia, so maybe my idea is cracked.)

SO.. 40ks rendition of combat from an imperial perspective is almost entirely based on WW1.. with that in mind, and given the exceedingly Facist, Militaristic background of the imperium, id say that looking like WW1 germans fits them like a damn glove. Secondly the Guard is not incompetent.. you need to reanalyze what your talking about before you say that. Look at who the imperium has to fight.. and remember the Other races represent those that are actual threats..
Chaos space marines: Genetically Engineered warriors now mutated with magic and deamons was well
Eldar/Dark Eldar: Incredibly old race that used to Rule the galaxy and uses incredibly advanced technology
Tyranids: A race of giant genetically engineered super critters hellbent on eating everything and are almost numberless
Orks: A race of large green fungus humanoids who love combat and excell at it, and are both physically stronger and tougher than a human
Necrons: Race of soulless machines serving star devouring creatures whos will is to destroy all life and whom the eldar were created to fight..
Tau: Race with comparable physical stats to a human, albiet with superior innovative technology
When you stack that up.. and give it that the guard is able to take all those fools toe to toe, and still give as good as they get.. you cant call them incompetent..

Of course there are instances where the Guard shows ample ability, ie Cadian Shock Regiments, Hardened Veterans, Stormtroopers, etc, but by and large, much of the Imperial Guard is made up of tithed, conscripted militia soldiers and barely-trained religious fanatics.
And Guard vs. many of those armies fail, unless you go Drop Guard or Stormtroopers or w/ inducted Inquisitorials... and of course it wouldn't be very fun if the protaganist in a BL story was a shitty guard who died 3 minutes into the book.
Maybe it is a case of the Guard being fairly competant soldiers while the rest of the galaxy is filled with absolute horror. IMO it depends on the regiment.
And GB> That'd be a massively huge undertaking, especially considering GMN seems to be focusing more on PURE now than Legions..

But it'd be ultra-cool. But rather than have different versions of units to select from it'd be easier to have seperate build trees for each, which would probably start with the Commander unit...

OK, SpikedHelmet I'll concede that it is probably too much work to make all of the possible IG varient units. Why not make the generic version (if such a thing exists) of the units and say that the IG regiment is a generic one from some worthless planet not worthy of specialized designs?

But doesn't choosing one specific regiment already cause you to miss out on loads of cool stuff? That's the feeling that I'm getting from the previous posts protesting the choice of the DKoK.
Once again, I'm a total newbie when it comes to WH40K, so all of my suggestions can safely be ignored if they are unrealisticly difficult. Above all, I would just like to see this mod close to completed.

I think we can all agree that for now Legions is basically dry-docked while GMN helps with PURE and whatever the hell else he does...
IMO generic IG would be probably Cadians. Not to mention that the major differences between regiments is how they fight and not so much what they fight with... (though the former dictates the latter up to a point). Elysian Drop Troops, Deathworlders, DKoK are the only truely unique IG groups IMO. And even they just favor certain tactics and/or equipemnt.
just remember the idea for the mod (besides's one of zoombies crazy posts) came from the "simple" idea of having everything from infantry to Titans on the same battlefield. And its pretty easy to explain why DKoK have a Baneblade with them or some other unit: they called for back-up
TBFH GW can keep the fluff, all
I want is the units "alive" on a battlefield so i can make em dead

Fun fact: Epic Legions does actually have Titan in it. It's only accessible via cheats and it's an old model though. Plus it doesn't have it's own weapons or armour class, so it's actually quite weak

How do I access the incomplete races? All I can use ATM is Space Marines, but GMN keeps talking about the limited Tau and IG implementation. I'm using Public Beta 1.4.

Yeah, the unfinished races are not available as starting options, mainly because (with the possible exception of the Imperial Guard) they'd get flattened by anyone playing Space Marines (due to them having access to higher level tech.). The Tau are especially screwed for online play, given that their core gameplay hasn't even been fully implemented yet.
