LL, I recommend getting a source-control system since your project is growing. With a good explorer-integration like TortoiseSVN, committing your half-finished work is a snap. This will allow you to revert any changes you make (or your program corrupts) with incremental backups.

:| I've had models with higher polycounts than that in Wings, never had crash issues (lag issues occasionally, but not crash). Are you sure there's nothing wrong with your PC?

You can put the autosave off.

If you got a crash while uvmapping you must have done something wierd. I've uvmapped something with 10.000 triangles, and there were no problems at all.

Maybe if you press and hold the s button out of rage :/

Pressing RMB during a certain operation (was it absolute move by coords?) will cause a crash. Also, manipulating UV mapped geometry, i.e. removing the center loop from a mirrored object might crash the UV plugin.

For me it crashes when i got a message from msn while rendering.
:/ hmm its maybe my system... not really stable

Ive crashed wings alot in my attempts to import models from Dryad, especially on high poly models. Also encountered sporadic random crashes.

LordMuffe's DGMittlererPanzer, painted in the Wolfen style:

Image

Please try to imagine that the light areas are metallic coppers and brass- I am stuck on a very lousy laptop that has an Intel chipset that can't even run Spring ATM, so I can't really show it off with Spring's ARB shaders, let alone with normalmaps. It'll look cooler with all the bells and whistles, I promise.

I will be also painting at least one if not both of his other wonderful Panzer models, which I really like the forms of.

The copper and brass areas and the barrel look totally out of place

Lol. Who would make a copper and brass tank? At the first weapon impact it would melt.

It's sci-fi. It makes as much sense as six-legged walking towers with giant floodlight eyes, frankly.

I think that it will be all right from a top view, and break up the rest of the shapes while providing some interest. We'll see. This was a bit of an experiment on my part, and if it doesn't work it'll be fairly easily fixed.

No, they're right, it makes less. This is sci-fi, ie an attempted representation of the future. This is a tank. You expect the armour to be sensible. If it's overlaid cooper/brass the Wolfen added because they're flashy like that, then you'd expect to see bits of the harder, actual-armour bits underneath, like around the vents for example (which at the moment look like they might be made of gold, quite possibly the worst metal possible for that bar mercury).

And why did you use your usual barrel texture on the barrel? If it's square, isn't that usually indicative of a less-than-ordinary gun, like say a railgun?

Yeah. Why don't you just forget that style? It's just a metal texture, some random paneling and then A LOT of dirt and some lights. Try to make something new instead of abusing the same thing over and over again.

Gold and orange are fine, but copper and brass materials are not... seriously.

I really like that style.

Just say it looks like brass or copper, but dont say what the armours actually made of. Perhaps the wolfen have coated their armour so that its that colour and its actually steel or titanium

I personaly will imagine the gold parts as TiN coated or parts with chromate conversion coating, makes more sense. TiN ftw.

Seriously, materials arent that black and white. So, it is the future: they found a way to make a usefull armor with a cooper/brass coating or just cover the armor with it for style.
If it's overlaid cooper/brass the Wolfen added because they're flashy like that, then you'd expect to see bits of the harder, actual-armour bits underneath,
In a future where things like building with nanites are standard, i sure expect them to be able to construct big parts of armor with a single crystal/monocrystal structure.

That aside, i personly like the "dark" parts of the unit.

Argh, could you please upload me your uvmapped version?
