Fireworks (1997)
Kikujiro (1999)
The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi (2003)

If you have to pick one, watch Fireworks.

Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky is absolutely amazing film. He managed to combine best elements from his last movies in this psychological thriller greatly influenced of Polansky's Repulsion

I dare to say It could be almost a perfect movie, if It wouldn't use these hollywood-horror-effects so over-extensively. They indeed do the trick, but sometimes the movie's credibility is in danger: You certainly can illustrate mental breakdown and insanity better, non-hollywood way.

"bodyguards and assassins"

i watched it because it won the golden horse award for action choreography (crouching tiger, kung fu hustle etc) so i was a bit worried when after half an hour nobody had died and nothing violent had happened; and as if on cue, 30 ninjas drop through the skylights and slaughter everyone with hooked weapons

there is defenitely a very long "feeling out period" where you don't know who any of the characters are or their roles, but after a while you get it.

the film itself is based on a true story, although i really doubt that any of the fighting has a basis in reality. especially when the iron fan guy fights the group of attackers using hooks on the end of chains. you'll see when you watch, its so awesome

Mongol

A historical movie about the early years of Genghis Khan, basically starting with his childhood and ending before he went on to conquer half of the world. Really enjoyed it, made me want to read some books about him.

I watched it in Russian but I'm pretty sure there is an English dub seeing that it was released in the US aswell.

I love this movie too. It's kind of dark, but a really well-made, dramatic movie. I don't think I've ever seen a better fairy movie than this one. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies with intense and surprising plots even if you don't like fairy movies in general.

SuckerPunch is getting panned by everybody. Mainstream feminists say it is misogynistic, men say it is misandrist, abuse survivors say it trivializes abuse with unrealistic action sequences, and the general public can't cope with the abuse superstructure.

Not really. Cap, Thor, Submariner, Daredevil and Punisher are all relatively unpopular. Their big names are Spiderman, the X-Men and Iron Man. Iron Man only because the film was so popular, really. He'd been downhill in the comics for almost two decades.

They did a lot right in the first Punisher film, but also a lot wrong. Daredevil was a shame. No Submariner on the horizon.

Iron Man and Spiderman are comparable symbols of American values. Much more popular comparable symbols.
