Ohhh, it flies left... I see.
I think it'd be cooler if it flew the other way around!
Nice model though, got a good sense of style.

IMO you should stick a couple dozen boosters on the back

Literally done in under an hour, model
and texture:

Well, that's great on speed... really, not bad 'tall.
Realism-wise... well, what kind of hellish environmental is this poor chair exposed to? What physical process resulted in the patterns of damage and wear we're seeing here?
Yeah, yeah, I know, you probably only had, what, maybe 30 minutes to do the skin... don't bite me, just askin'
But what sticks out, for me, right away, is the very weird places paint is missing- makes it look artificial right away, imo.
Also... that's for a HL2 mod, right? Feels a bit low-spec for HL2, both in terms of tricount and the skin. But, time-wise... eek. Dunno about 1 hour, that's asking a lot. I'd say that 1.5-2 is a more realistic target, and that's assuming that the normalmap / specmap isn't fancy.

Texture? It looks like you just loaded some random material image you had at hand.

Thanks for the encouragement, Captain Optimism. It's WIP and done in under an hour, what were you expecting? I had to go to school five minutes after posting that up, I'm not done yet!
And that was done by hand. Should I take that it looks like a texture as a compliment?
@Zsinj: Will do.
@Argh: Lots. It's for a Serberian school that's been left abandoned for 30-40+ years.
As for spec: it's a kid's chair, so it's pretty small, and there's probably going to be a lot of them. Waste not.

The issue is that the texture doesn't look related to the model. While that is some good material it doesn't look like it belongs on a chair at all, even looks uniform over the whole model when the chair looks like it should at least have a few different colors on things like the seat and the back part.

Yeah, heavily rotten wood would fit better for this model.

Start from nothing

chairs like that arn't made of metal and they surely don't look like that if they are.

...it isn't made of metal. That's painted wood.
EDIT: Oops, my fault. Yeah, it looks like actual wood now >_>

Ok, so basically the chair's in an intact structure, not out in the weather very much. It's dealt with freezing cold, maybe some water damage, maybe some sun exposure. 40 years is a long time, but wooden objects last a loooooong time, if they don't get wet. Like... practically forever. Visit any museum.
Assuming that it isn't exposed to rain on a regular basis... other than cracked areas where the paint's going to have flaked off due to thermal stress, it's going to be basically intact, other than the lower parts, where water is going to have damaged the wood, caused rot, and made the paint fall off of the soft surfaces.
So... try for a realistic paint layer, mark out the nails... then make the damage fit the pattern of wear. If it gets wet in there (I don't mean like oceanic, just wet floors from a leaky roof), then you're going to see pretty catastrophic damage around the feet, with very little paint there and dark, wet-looking wood. All of the nail holes wherever water got will show some rusting.
It doesn't need to be perfect, and a couple of variants, for chairs that have been lying down on the floor instead of standing normally might be an appropriate response.

Ice damage, maybe? it is siberia. Maybe a couple of scratches, cracks from expanding/contracting?

Did I say Siberian? Oops. It should read Serbian...

Geez GMN! First its a metal chair from Siberia, now its a wooden chair from Serbia?! How can you expect us to keep up!!!
If its wood, all it needs is visible woodgrain texturishness on the wood parts. That should be enough to make it recognized as being dirty chipped paint on wood rather than rusting metal (which everyone here thought it was ahahahah nubs)
Oh also, what would make it even more chair and woodlike is if you had some parts just plain wood (maybe treated wood). For instance make the seat the only part with blue paint on it or something with the legs unpainted wood.

I know. Sorry, it's supposed to be wood. The fact that that's not clear is because I messed up the alpha masks slightly.

Made this ages ago for IW, but it was decided that it wasn't in the star wars aesthetic enough. It probably needs a different control area thing, but if someone's interested in using the model, let me know.
