beautiful... you going to use the new laser bitmap? (it takes the first half and applies it to where the laser is fired, and takes the second half and puts it at the end of the laser)

For those not familiar with Battletech, ER lasers are "Extended Range" - they have higher damage, longer range, and generate more heat per use than their normal counterparts.

I was always a fan of LRPPC'S, but I just thought their coolio 'ball of energy' thing was really neat.
Then I got MechWarrior Four and played it...and then the PPC fired beams! I was: "I don't remember this in my old Battltech game for the Sega Genisis..."

Well, as much as I loved the MW2 plasmaball PPCs, the beams they introduced in MW3 made more sense from a classic battletech perspective - I mean after all, the PPC was a long-ranged weapon. Longer ranged than the Large Laser even. Just from it's stats it was obviously mean to be "really big laser" but with a fun name and a minimum range. So making it into a lightning gun made much more sense than a weapon that a locust could outrun at top speed.
MW2 had lots of fun/silly features (like the ground-strafing with jump jets) but most of those were departures from classic BattleTech.

Given the effort, I believe you'll be able to pull it off with .73 - now, I have a query... do all of the missiles home? In that case, would they not be Streak SRM/MRM/LRMs?

Only homing missiles home of course! That would be barely home for LRM's. Regular MRM's and SRM's of course won't.

Cool. Will we get Streaks for some of the units? Cause those were my favoret wepaons in the Mechcommander game.

I thought he had either ERPPCs or ER Heavy lasers on his arms... that's why the gun's so big. No?
I'm so mad that Mechwarrior 3 doesn't work on XP, I loved that game. Best one, IMO.

the arm being big is just a stylistic thing. The Timberwolf does carry ER Large Lasers in its arms in the primary configuration, and it does have a configuration where it carries ER PPCs in the arms instead. Omni-mech weapon swapping ftw.

Upspring 1.4 has a fancy new animation thingie that's beyond my simple comprehension, maybe it would be of use?
