i was gonna suggest a pillar/set of pillars with the different caste symbols on them, though im not sure how well documented the caste symbols are anyone know.
Ethereals are the guides for TAU they lead them towards the greater good...The remaining casts are below them. As far as the styling of their buildings GW has that covered on their site.

I always thought of the Tau buildings as big domes that could be dropped anywhere to quickly set up positions. Of course these would have to be in the new model format because of the tris.

yeah most depictions of tau buildings has them with a lot of half-sphere, cylinders and other rounded shapes. i don't know about the quick setup part although their turrets are meant to be airdropped from orcas.
AND GOOD NEWS Nexus finnally responded and i should have the fourm up in the next few days

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/TAU_TURRETS.html lovely turrets. i was thinking of the pilar thing as a taller version of the sensor one with the top on it and the etherial caste symbol instead of the firecaste and proably a bit higher up

yeah that sounds cool though i would suggest taking advantage of the "high techology" aspect of the Tau and have the symbol as its own seperate piece that float above the base piece. hell have it rotate as well.
also raik can u find a good pic of the ethereal symbol to post a link to?

Ploink. got that myself actually heh my dads got a small Tau army and me an imperial guard one however we've not added to them for about 2 years O_o. Gah i was going to start them up again since i quit college but got suckered into 1/285th scale moderns and now find myself with no time on my hands because of work!

ahh so that is the symbol ... i think ive seen that somewhere outside GW realted products?!? ahh well whatever.
ive got a Ultramarines army myself. its mainly infantry with some speeders, dreadnoughts, and a razorback for my command squad. great thing about my army is i can use teh Drop Pod rules for the whole army if i remove the Razorback

. sure its sucks when its raining artillery shells but it sucks even more when its raining 7 foot tall supersoldiers wielding bolt spewing death
EDIT: the forum assembly has stalled again as im waiting for a response from nexus again.

In the tau codex it clearly discribes the buildings as well grounded, ALSO...
The earth caste are the builders. They would no build flying buildings...
A minor reminder....
Air caste: aircraft pilots
Water Caste: negotiation
Fire caste: warriors and ground troops(NEVER AIRCRAFT PILOTS)
Earth caste: construction
Ethereal: bringers of the truth of the greater good, Spiritual and societal leaders.
of course what would I know... this wouldn't be my mini:

I'm a terrible fan of Forgeworld seeing as i love personalising my forces. I would pop up a few tau ones but unfortunately my cameras all packed i'm off to finland in a day

thos eones are just archived. oh incase you're wondering on the top one yes the blue is photoshoped in my walls are not sky blue and things in the background can't be in focus the same time as things in the forground lol. The 3rd picture is part of scenery thing i made a while back its like a factory thing but with the back part of it bombed in once again when i'm back i'll get pictures!

I didn't mean
literally dropped, should've made myself clearer.
I just meant a prefab building that would be quickly constructed.
Also, what else would you describe a Manta as?
The earth caste build everything; weapons, ships, armour...

politics later, model and mod ideas NOW!!
Talked to Aun in teh lobby a bit. he knows a far amount about the Tau so if someone plans on doing anything with them ask him for advice.
Also i recruited an artist to maybe make some load screens for us. he does an online cartoon at
http://www.gamersgonebad.com/ (not work appropriate!

!). While im probably gettin ahead of myself with this it can't hurt to have the ideas in place. and thankfully he has a friend who plays 40k so he has references for stuff.

Well, in terms of mod makeagageg we should focuse on two race's, just to start.
How about the Impireal Gaud and Okrs. That way we have the shooty and the stompy (a integral part of any warhammer 40K game. I mean comeone! Imagin a shooty shooty matchup! Disaster

)
or or or!
We could make the Tau and the Tryrannids (shooty and stompy, and a little less green...)
But lets not make space marins now.... there in everything and i'm kindof getting a little bored with them. We need more...Tau, Igg and tryannids... (Wow...i just realized the similaritys between that race match up and Protos, Terrens, and Zerg)

One question, folks... and it's a doozy: how are you planning to not get sued? GW is not real keen on anybody using its IP. Really- go read their IP policy on their website if you don't believe me- the restrictions they put on DoW mods were pretty draconian... and that was a game engine made for them, using their world to begin with
Be very, very careful. I think that using any trademark names/visual designs is a really good way to get them reeeeeal interested in you, and not in a good way, if this project gets off the ground.
And yes, I'm a poopy-butt for bringing this up... but unlike Wizkids, who is very unlikely to sue over a Mechwarrior-type game design that properly accredits them... GW might just shut you down regardless. This project hasn't really gotten all that far, yet, based on the few screens I'm seeing vs. the amount of chatter, but I'm a wee bit concerned... Spring is going to start getting a wider audience as first-class mods come out, and it's only a matter of time before people in the Industry start paying attention to how versitile the game engine is. Remember, no amount of "this is a work by fans, for fans, for free" is really protective, at least here in the USA (and, from my understanding of copyright law, in GB it works the same way, more or less). GW can still shut you down. If I were y'all, I'd make your visuals less obviously stolen... and change the names of things... but hey, I've only seen three different projects using GW IP shut down, so what do I know?

The Tau and Tyrannids would also be the two races most notably absent from Dawn of War: Winter Assault.

get Spring:Epic 40K hosted by a Swede. Apparently anything flies in that country.

u bring up a really good point argh. i actually did not know that GW (much like Blizzard) hordes the content they make. hmmm...
well since this really hasn't gotten anywhere im not to worried about it. and ur logic applies to Atari as well, right? Im assumin that since they won't sell the rights to Taylor they won't look kindly on people using stuff in the manner we are right now.
And FizWizz is right. we can get it hosted in sweden as their copyright laws are really odd. Check out this bit torrent site based there:
http://thepiratebay.org/legal.php. thats a list of their legal threats.
EDIT: even so we should continue on until they stop us. At least that way if we have somethin out they can't take it away from individuals.
