Yeh, it's supposed to be a cool robot tank.

Chassis and proportions are quite nice, turret needs work though. What's with that weird hat thing o_O

nah, that's an older version of it.

Almost done @ 2024 tri's. It's like a general transport for the robots I might add the option to buy it, loaded with units (more expensive ofc).

Now I have this question, I think I can change it to have only quads, then if i'm right upspring wont triangualate so it will be rendered as quads, but would that be really worth it or not? (will cause a few texture problems)

e: removed the inf and veh part, I planned to add the inf on those clamps but it would look really stupid so it's just going to be a normal transport.

If you make it an s3o upspring will triangulate it no matter what.

Will it? I thought quads were something hardware could draw natively. Learned something new there.

At any rate, Hoi, they're right- all S3Os are triangulated by UpSpring. I was under the impression that the quads stayed quads, because of some lines in Spring's source, but it appears that they're triangulated when they're saved in that format. Sorry, the whole quad thing is a myth, mainly based on something I said in error awhile ago, and is incorrect. If you want them to stay quads, mesh-wise, then it'd have to be 3DO.

Don't be annoyed: if he copied some elements of the design, that just means he likes it and you should take it as a compliment. Besides, judging things by model alone is unwise as the texture can change everything (which is likely, given that it will be used for a different project). And have you even used that model?

lol, yeah, but that's a fairly straight forward lifting of the design, the only thing that's changed is the turret.

It's a pretty standard scifi tank design in any case.

Origially the tank did'nt have the things on the wheel and the holder for them, I thought that it missed something, but I remembered sakoths tank, and I thought that those would fit on great, yeah, it looks a bit like the other one, but I don't really care.

it's not so much whether you care or not, you've sort of verbatim taken someone else's design and claimed it as your own (and let's be honest, it wasn't just the wheels - the whole chassis is pretty much straight from saktoth's tank).

As GMN noted, it's not the end of the world, but you should say where you got it from, and really probably should've checked with saktoth to see if it was cool first.

I changed the chassis a bit too, but I didnt make it to duplicate sakoths tank, but if he think's its a problem I'll be happy to change it or make a new one.

It never draws quads. There's a GL_QUADS mode but while the geometry data is sent as quads the hardware will triangulate it. N-gons aren't necessarily planar while triangles always are so they'd be more complicated to render.

You can't really put him on the spot like that hoi, it's not fair to him, he hasn't done anything wrong here, and you're putting him in a situation where he has to come off like an asshole if he doesn't want you to use his design, which really he has every right too. Which is why you ought to have asked him privately first.

In my opinion the best option is to drop the tank, or thoroughly edit it, and next time just be a little more aware of intellectual property. Despite how much people like to kick and scream about it here, we're not in a particularly litigious environment (ie: noone's going to actually do anything about it), but it just means that we have to be all the more 'gentlemanly' about it in order for this whole thing to succeed reasonably.

Indeed. Sak also has the option of "If you had asked, I would have said yes. But because you didn't, I'm going to say no." Again, perfectly within his rights to (epic lulz and +9001 points if he does) do so.
