Any kind of board generally has lots of writing and things to plug other things into.

The filtered textures you made are a start, but to be really interesting, they need more love.
If you're planning to use them as a repeating tile so you can fill areas with them, you need to take a section at whatever resolution you're going to use and do the hand-editing required to make it tile nicely. There are various ways to make tiles- I prefer using offset and editing out by hand, it gives it a better feel, imo.
I could see a "circuit-board armor", with golden lines of reflectivity and green, being very interesting visually, but when it's just gray levels of green, it's probably not going to work- it'll just look very noisy at a distance. I'd give it more real color variation, better feeling for light and shadow, and better use of contrast before using it as a fill texture.

there are various possibilitys by varying filters and colours, im thinkin about using something like this for a solar collector

i dunno how to use texture 2 yet

Unless he started his filter from a 'clouds' base, which automatically tiles.

filter-whoring is always used in extremely amatuerish photoshop works. Learn what was inside of those tutorials I linked you to.

Yeah, I started filtering a lot but very quickly moved away from it. It never works the way you want it, and anyone with basic photoshop experience can spot it a mile away.

You can actually create nice overlays with the clouds and sponge filter, good for metal surfaces or adding noise (much better than the noise filter).

or you can use a pattern that you have stored... /me does that.

If I don't need it to tile, I'll use actual metal textures from cgtextures or from photos on flickr - far more realistic.

Ooh, I'll have to remember that. Drawing/filtering everything by hand is not so good for a GIMP newb like me.
