Spring RTS Engine

I've owned a Commodore, a 386 SX Tandy, a 486 DX Compudyne, a 50mhz Comcrap, a 200 MHz Tiger Direct Cone, a 400 MHz workbook, a 500MHz Tiger Direct Clone, an 800 MHz Homebuilt, a 1.4 GHz Homebuilt, 2.4GHz Laptop (modified), and now a 3.2 GHz homebuilt (overclocked to all hell)...

This is going too far. Operating serves no purpose here, you cannot determine how fast a PC will run based on its operating system. This is pure discrimination, and there is no justifiable reason for anyone to know your OS, not even lag, no OS capable of running spring produces enough lag irrespective fo hardware to justify it.

Ontop of this Spring mark has now moved out into the security realm. OS data is too much information. We already have our IPs shown to the world via the lobby when we join a battle, combining that with OS data makes it even worse.

This is one step too far.

quite frankly i think this whole idea was made by some guy who just got himself a good computer and now judges people by their cpu speed.




when i first played spring, it was with a 0.9ghz pc.

the graphics were set to the lowest
i lagged if there were more than 2 players on the map
i didnt care a fuck about it
played a lot of 1v1's
became one of the top 20 players.
later on i got a better computer; and yet, the graphics are still set to the lowest possible.


you may have a better computer
you may have the best graphics spring has to offer
you wont lag if there are more than 2 players on the map
you care about it
you despise 1v1
you lack skill to play 1v1
you buy the latest computer hardware and compare them when they get released to buy the one that has 0.5% better performance over the rest for just 90$ more.

go enjoy your 5v5 greenfieldsgames banning everyone who doesnt have quadcore :)

Lathan is right. Satirik, JJ: Good to see you working on Spring, but put it into something worthwhile. Springmark is a bad idea - intrusive and virtually useless for me, a 1v1 player. Something about 1v1 being superior and CPU Speed = ePeen size.

tbh you only need to know their cpu model and if theyve overclocekd it to determine how well most games will run.

Next version of springmark the plan is to include SIN numbers, age, weight, sex, date of birth, and ethnicity. These factors should help in eliminating lag by allowing users to auto kick jews blacks and pregnant women. Also, it should help protect us from terrorists TBH.

i think its pretty ridiculous how angry you people are over a program that needn't effect you at all.

Right. As long as betalord doesn't put this into official lobby and make it become the de-facto way of deciding whether players can join games or not, there really isn't any point to bitching the issue any longer.

I have expressed my thoughts on the issue and the improvements to Springmark that can be made. It appears that jj and Satirik disagree, so there's no point in persuading them to change their mind.

That said I think there's no way in hell Springmark and it's lobby manifestation can join Spring's main trunk.

AF and others who have coding experiece: if you don't like what you see, then I hope you can make a difference by creating a more appropriate benchmark system, one which will hopefully someday enable us to truly annihilate laggy games.
