Pressure, the trick is to go out into the real world and look at surfaces. NOTHING is just a solid uniform colored, textureless field. There's a reason why we call the process of painting a model "texturing", it's because we're adding the illusion of static flat surfaces appearing dynamic and shaded. Go through virtually any model texturing tutorial ever and you'll see what I mean. You add on dirt, you add on scratches in appropriate places, you add bumps and scratches in the paint, you add in shadow gradients, and hard shadows where appropriate.

Right now your tires are just black plates with white lines intersecting the UV face dissections. Think about it, have you ever seen tires that look like that in your life?

I am well aware that the wheeled vehicle looks terrible, and for now that model is being discarded. i have changed my mind on using it, and have a better design sitting in my head.

the block colours were just a filler till i could find/make something better.

You mean you didn't model it or what? O__o

Either way, you are practicing making good uv maps, so keep going :P

i didnt make the model or the texture. *all* i did was export it from Battlezone, clean up the model (some of the models are a bit dodgy) and do the UV map. took about 4 hours.
