No more contenders? And stop talking about snakes when we need planes ffs!

not bad at all!... its, well... very rugged, fun, and still a plane!
whats the polycount??
only beef I have with it is that we weren't supposed to glorify them with a texture I assumed...
/me wonders if he should texture his own...
btw. 3do, per-face-texture... is.. GARBAGE!!!... get a UV on that puppy and REALLY texture it

old design.. dunno howmany poly...

Not bad, not bad at all. Though a bigger shot with wireframes and triangle count would be cool.

Remember you need to post the model file in order to enter...

Heres my attempt.......... *Note* In the pictures it is shown to have some rocket launchers under its wings/air intake. These had to be removed because when triangulated they sent the total poly count to about 1500.... The model download is 796 Poly's and doesnt not have any weapons as of yet...... Its late now and I am going to bed but heres my stuff.

LOL, did you actually model all those little rockets? Textures are extremely important! >.> Quote by Maestro..

bad model with good texture than good model with bad texture--

I'd rather have a good model with a good texture. Never mind those rockets. Just take a look at FF, it got tons of ships with rockets.
I recommend to remove the rockets and rocket intakes and leave the rocketlaunchers where they are.

They already have been removed, the model does not have the rockets attached

. I thought that seeing as the competition was for pure modelling I would try and put as much detail in as possible in the model.
Its morning at the moment and I had some periods at school to attend but when I am home I will model some weapons to stick onto it.

Ok, redone and seriously trimed down in poly's to allow for some weapons. this model has four ridiculously huge cannons mounted on the bottom. I figurad it was some form of fly over artillery/bomber and I guess it could also be used in air to air combat to annihilate other aircraft.......... if it ever hit one.

How about ending the competetion this weekend and then starting the evaluation of the models?
I don't think using a poll is any good, some people with some time at their hands and good deal of modeling knowledge could be the judges and rate the models. Judge candidates could be Argh, Lathan, KDR, hmm.. I don't know much about the others.
So how about this...
Code: Select all
50 pts - Quality
30 pts Effort
20 pts Originality
EXTRA:
15 pts UV map (if available)
Conclusion: short note about what could have been better etc.
Total x/100
...for instance.
Also running a poll in between doesn't hurt, but I like this way more.
edit: UV-map adding to the total points but is not necessary.

Rattles idea is all good, except I thought that Peter stated it was supposed to be a pure model with nothing else so not sure what to think when it comes UV mapping..... Mind you he also wanted to competition to be finished several days ago so I guess things can change

.
On another note I messed around with my model for a couple min before making it look as if it could fly by reducing the size of the guns under it and streamlining the mounts for the guns aswell. Too bad for me if we get judged on our UV maps cause I cant be bothered doing one, Its not like its too hard to UV map using wings, the hard part is texturing. I'm just too tired now, theres not enough time in the day to do work, play spring and make models... *sigh*
Anyhow here is the model download links for anyone who cares.... Cant be bothered posting pics of the new versions.

Its probably too late to enter, infact it was probably too late the very first time I stuck something in this furom. Who cares, someone might want the model for something.

Yeah you're out!
Nah it's not too late, P3374H (god I hate it when there's no autocompletition) said he wanted about 15 planes... alright, then forget about the UV map, it'll be additional points what ever :)

I
might model a second eventually... I've got ideas brewing...

1) Effort seems rather hard to objectively judge.
2) I suggest giving two scores - one similar to above and second where that total score is divided by polycount, so we get efficiency score.

umm... dividing by polycount? umm... that makes no sense...
I can see how you intend to use that right... but again... its not.. gonna work right... it just won't..
if you gave an option to "inspect for extra polys, un-needed polys" and then used that as a negative score, or something like (bad polies / 10) so that its a max negative of 100.. it'll work...
I.E. if you CAN find 10 un-needed polys on my plane, it'll count as 1 negative point... if you can find 30 bad ones, then its 3 negative points... and god forbid, if you can find 150, it'll be 15 points...
I don't see "efficiency" coming into scoring much, since it wasn't in the starting regulation, just "under 1000" thus, this will keep its impact at a low, but could push 2 neck-and-neck projects to a winner and a loser.. or a higher scored... whatever...

Or we just make a poll with the three or five best rated models and let users decide.

Crap Two Polys! Oh man, this calls for a complete remodel.
*Sigh* UV mapping. Hell its not easy like I said it was before, not on anything above 6 poly's like a cube. I guess I am just retarded at it. Also wings hates me and doesnt let me UV map some objects, I get some kind of internal error. I guess if I had some experience with textures I would know how to UV map but I am kinda new to modelling. I'm taking one little baby step at a time.
Das Bruce only recently showed me how not to waste vertices and not to use excessive faces. I look foward to sometime in the future being able to make complete working units for spring Ta and other mods.
Heres the new new final version of the model, stands at 954 tris now, got rid of a heap of faces on the engine exhaust, cockpit, and the wings that weren't adding any real visual appeal.

Some pointers would be nice, also has anyone else received an internal error in wings when trying to UV map some objects?
