I get failed to build vertex shader when i try to load a map.. same error as tobi had a while back. Ive got a 7800 GTX with 84.xx drivers (91.31 causes horrible lag for me, like 7 FPS)

Turn off shaders in "settings", but then you won`t get any bump mapping.

yeah i know of that, but i want to see the shinyness >_<

Tobi had that error because he had old shaders... Did you install all files in the zip? There have to be terrain*Shader.glsl files in spring\shaders\

comp1337, check out the duel-core thread in the help forum - it's sorted my problems out, i can use the latest drivers just fine now.

First off, i'd like to say great job with the new format.

The terrain (especially metal maps) will definitely benefit greatly with it.

And a question or two. That terrain tex mufdvr222 posted on page 8 there seems to be a normal map; is it? I'd be interested to know if units can benefit from spec and normal maps as well. :-)

Sure, but that's a completely different part of spring, so unit rendering code has to be changed for that. I imagine we'll have something like that in the future though.

uhm, I've got some rendering matters with the shining MetalHeck

When in OTA camera mod, the terrain does not show properly, like this

When switching to a different camera mod, spring crashes and says this :

Code: Select all

spring: rts/Map/SM3/terrain/Terrain.cpp:461: void terrain::Terrain::Update(): Assertion `camera->pos.x == 0.0f || frustum.IsPointVisible (camera->pos + camera->front * 20)==Frustum::Inside' failed.
Aborted

I have a nvidia geforce fx 5200 with latest drivers by the way ..
hope this helps

edit: oh actually it appears to do that with all sm3 maps
(it did not earlier)

fx 5200 + nvidia 91.xx drivers + spring == bad idea

try an 8x.xx series driver.

just get your drivers from guru3d.com, guru3d hacks the drivers so that they support all or at least most, nvidia cards.

hm i have the 8762 in fact, that's the latest for linux
And most 3d apps are working fines, there's only some troubles in spring with advanced graphics such as shadows and dynawater, which I can understand are not supported by a fairly old card like this one

I did not search a lot but apparently they are not supporing linux

well i forgot to mention that ..

you neglected to mention that you were using linux

In fact it's not entirely a linux issue
The map is also badly displayed (black frames everywhere), however the camera can be switched (however I may not have tested with the same version ..)

I'm not sure whether dynawater is working or not, I did not notice any wave anyway. But shadows are. (both were tested on a smf map)

Windows NVIDIA drivers are 81.95.

I also forgot to mention, that fx cards have a history of not agreeing with spring.

S27 is a good person to ask about that.

For the life of me I can't figure out why. One of my biggest barriers is the fact that I have an fx 5500 256 ddr and have never had any trouble with spring.

On my 6600GT metal map (in f4 mode) is z-fighting with terrain. It's been like that since the first unofficial release of 0.73. Guess it's still in beta.
