But if you were to pronounce 'moder' you'd get 'mode errrr' (with a hard 'o') as opposed to 'modder' which results in 'mod errr' (with a soft 'o'). Since mod is short for modification, which does not start with a 'mode' sound, 'modder' is better.

So yes, the -er suffix is accurate, but in order to have the word recognize its root in sound, it needs the extra 'd'.

Woo for way offtopicness.

No, it is pronounced moder(′mōd├é┬Àər)... you know... like modern(mŏd'ərn).... without the n.

Phonetics :) modder is pronounced mod - der...

Touch├â┬®.

All I can fall back on is the will of the internets, which states that one who mods is a modder. At least, that's how it is everywhere I've seen.

the Internet is also responsible for kthxbye and phrases "your a ball" or "alot" I like to go by proper phonetics.

I've always pronounced it "modder", i.e., "one who makes a mod", just like plumber, racer, climber, heckler, hacker... sorry Smoth, "moder" sounds like somebody who hangs out in Hot Topic hoping to get a clue, whereas "modder" sounds like somebody who is tinkering with an existing dynamic ;)

the extra d is wrong though. I have not found a similar word.

*edit*
dammit you need to preview before you post so I can reply to the correct post :P

climb -climber
hack -hacker
box -boxer
murder -murderer
truck -trucker
clean -cleaner

etc...

all terms have the sufix added without an extra character. I am not sure how adding a d then the sufix er is correct.
*end edit*

*Edits some more*

I did some digging, I should have remmebered.. hot and hotter... why the extra 't' we need an english degree person to clarify....

most of the words with add strike those out. you know add has two 'd's

I am trying to see where we get modder. Why is it spelled with an extra d.. is it to avoid a homonym? Is it proper spelling to add a 'd' and if so what are some other cases.

I think it's to keep the pronounced sound the same- "moder" becomes "mode-r", which is a hard "o". There are few words in English with an "odder" in them, and fewer of those words are in popular usage. One of the first ones that immediately comes to mind is "fodder", I suspect for most people as well.

BTW, while we're totally derailing this thread (not that it matters, because cruise missiles are 100% possible in Spring so long as they're Units, because kamikaze code works just fine if the detection radius check succeeds and it's not the devs fault that nobody has yet made a mod that uses aircraft that can successfully execute this attack ((hint... give them an onlyForward gun with a range greater than maxHeight but that moves very slooowly)))... is it totally necessary to have a huge, public fight with certain people who are well-known blockheads, when you could just take the mod that the fighting is about and roughly balance it in about 2 days and tack a few explosionGenerators on it and call it done? Just askin'.

I use modder because of "modding".

if it is what I think it is about, yes argh, becuase I am not sure 2 hours would solve it.. there are weeks of testing and I am not sure how long it would take to strip out all of the stuff added and modified by a certain other stubborn moder.

speaking of off topic thoughts... when am I getting my traditional rts version of nanoblobs...

Results 1 - 10 of about 532,000 for moding. (0.10 seconds)
Did you mean: modding?
Results 1 - 10 of about 31,700,000 for modding. (0.12 seconds)
I think we have a winner...

Actually smoth in this case I think you're wrong and here's why.

You are basing your opinion on entire words.

Mod is short for modification, therefore it is not a true word in the sense. Regardles, moder does read like mode eeerrr. THat has always bugged me, Besides, can the will of the internets be truly wrong? Remember, it's serious fucking business.

According to the Warhammer 40k rule book, when we come across a rule that is ambigious and we cannot figure out exactly how it should be done.. the solution is to roll a 6 sided dice (d6)..

So 4+ its moder
3- its modder

GO!
