This was in a thread a while back..nothing came of it despite a poll where the majority of votes were for more ranks.

You could have been playing against me
I bought TA back in '97 when it came out, started playing spring back in april of 2006. Its beyond the point of having any entertainment value whatsoever, screwing around/being a nub seems to be more fun than actually playing. Though if someone is going to start telling me that im doing this and that wrong, a "STFU" may or may not arise in the... "discussion"...

And that's what makes people change to different communities all the time.

refusing advice from people who know better is pretty dumb imo

The problem is that who knows better isn't always that clear.

Remind me never to ally with you.

As skill level increases in spring, players get nicer (generally)
Some things you can do:
Stop playing noob maps
Stop playing games with more than 4 people in them
Learn the names of people you like playing with and play with them
Make smurf accounts and make them join all the team games you play and be your allies and then when they dont connect (one player cant be in the same game twice) .take their coms and control your whole team by yourself 8-D
Play 1v1 comet catcher 24/7

Good idea! Playing with extra coms is always fun.

As others here, I think a new, efficient ranking system (not time played, but not just wins/losses) would help the community alot.
Ranking based on who the player won to, or who he lost to ... quite like splatterladder for Wolf:ET I think =)
This ranking would let player have games with people having a relatively near skill, and would reduces games with players insulting their teammates or unbalanced teams.
This aside, spring would really benefit of a single-player campaign. In most games featuring solo and multiplayer, solo ends up being a quite efficient tutorial to the multiplayer (altough playing against an AI or a real player is something different, at least novices learn about the basic commands and ressource management, discover units, and with well made map, they can be forced to learn how to react in some special situations).
so, +1 for a new ranking system. If I can help on this (i know some code, tough not much, should be sufficient for statistics analysis / ranking algorythms). Actually, I might even be able to help with a "tutorial campaing" =)

A new ranking system would be great. For the time being atleast more rank icons based on *eech* in game time would be nice. It is surely a lame way to judge rank but its the best method we have right now... and adding more icons wouldn't involve too much work.

are wins/losses already counted by the stats system?

the only think i hate about ranks is the players stars who make com intrusion, com steal or others things like that which finish in a 10 mn battle with no fight ...
It's better to play with noobs than with these peoples ... because a noob can easily support u if u give him good instructions ... and that make good battle lot of time ... but these star players sucks a lot !!!

noobs can do those things too, it just takes time for them to learn it
the only thing i really hate is when they kick specs instead of telling them to leave first, specially in lobby

We cannot blame the stars for that... is in fact anyoing, but if the possibily is there they have the right to use it. The best solution would be changes in the mod thenselfes, maybe making transports unable to load enemy units and reducing (or completly eliminating) the com explosion.

maybe its change the players ? the com explosion is good ... like the fact of been able to take your com with planes ... take others com can be funny ... but u have to respect the gameplay ... all players only want to make base and attack ... if the party is finished in 10 mn its so stupid for all ...
We dont have to change these good things for few bad utilisations ...

I actually don't comnap nubs unless they deserve it for some reason (refusing to change setting from dgun limit, being asses in other ways). I do comnap experts whenever I get the chance.

I comnap everychance i get, i even forget about playing the actual game, concentrating on that next comnap hit.

but in a 16 player game its easy to comnap the 4-5 noobcom ... and u explose them on other player and party is finish ... that's really interessant to do that !!!
I prefere to fight ... we can try to make a comnap mod ? with no units no AA and only planes ? it can be good for u ^^

They are not really bad utilizations... your job it to win, and if that is a good way to win, even if you dont do it cause you dont think its fun, you cannot blame the other players for doing it since its a possibily the mod offers. Maybe if we make it that coms dont explode so catastropically if they are being carried?
