back on topic.......
-make/buy and wear spring tshirts.
-get your friends to try spring
-put spring url in your msn/aim whatever display name

etc etc.

On a side note, i isnt graffiti really cool? i mean, i obviously would never condone it, or suggest the linkage of it and spring in any way, but yeah, isnt it cool..

fixed =P

Anyhow, we are close to opensource content as others have said, but I would definatly not go for nanoblobs as a main mod, not because its not high quality (it is) but because its has... quirkey gameplay somecapred to most traditional RTS's. The learning curve to a point is unavoidable because of how the interfaced is tuned to give players lots of micro-reducing controlls (repeats, pauses, adv patrols, selection key editor, AI helpers and so on) that are very, very useuful and also very unique to spring. That all said, I think we are rapidly approaching the point where spring can have a bit more exposure as it constantly improves and streamlines (though streamlineing and further bugfixes are more required in this respect)).

I'm in no position to make decisions about Spring. But There does seem to be a general consensus on what avenues should be taken (correct me if I'm wrong).

By the looks of it, until spring is completely open source (bearing in mind what SwiftSpear had to say; it appears 9/10 games are XTA or AA) no overt action to spread spring should be taken lest we incur the wrath of the relevant corporations.
Having said that, an underground campaign made up of personal endorsement; message boards, sigs, T-shirts :) etc. seems like the best idea.
Particularly since, as someone pointed out, lots of OTA players will be flocking to Supcom soon, particularly those who haven't found Spring yet. (having said that, lets not get into a Supcom debate here  )

With regard to the learning curve, imho, it may be somewhat too steep at the moment for gamers who can't be bothered to try twice. But this can easily be changed by scripted in-game tutorials, or as I considered even a pdf/chm distributed with the next release which explains the basics of who to setup a game (NAT hole punching etc) for other noobs to join.
Having said that, I was an OTA player who picked it up and found it easy to play and the controls quite intuitive.

Unless there is a wiki page for promotion or some other centralized point for communication that I'm not aware of, I guess it is best that members such as myself enquire here before posting articles on digg.com, slashdot.org, podcasts, youtube (as someone pointed out) etc. I presume that each would have to be discussed on an individual basis.

And in the mean time, I shall start promoting... quietly but steadily.

It has a much smaller learning curve compared to OTA based mods. You could think of it as a speedmetal economy with strategy and tactics rather than chokepoints and boredom.

I hope you don't mind that I have taken the liberty to make one, though I would appreciate that others help edit.

I certainly don't mind if that's who you are referring to. I reckon it's an excellent step.
I'm not entirely sure what is the official Spring logo is at the moment, however, eventually a few icons like this would also be a good addition to the wiki http://www.songbirdnest.com/getsongbird

I as an insider in the games industry now (under a technicallity, I know) am advertising it. I've also suggest Jorminkomiko try and sneek an ad for it into the source for VISTA... :P

Well, I'm doing my part by writing about Spring for the school newspaper, and I plan to get a Spring T-Shirt eventually...

Seems to me that bulletin boards, t-shirts, and 'sigs.' (Signatures on boards?) Are a good, realistic way to spread spring. We aren't talking about world peace here :) One question that does come to mind though is how many users the lobby server can actually handle (reasonably)?

If a spring T-shirt gets made that actually looks nice, I'd problably buy it.
