I think that you have it backwards... That's being... stupid.Snipawolf wrote:Being "nerdy" is being really skinny and liking computers, pretty much...
I think of "nerdy" as all the dumbasses that wanna get Halo 3, cuz it looks like it has great graphics...
A true nerd is someone who realizes that it's about the gameplay, and plays tetris and Jazz Jackrabbit and TA and ... Tyrian and Descent 1 and stuff.
Of course, that's just a type of computer game nerd. There are other types of nerds, only united by people thinking they're wierd and obsessed with wierd stuff. And a nerd can be many different tpes at once. For example, there's the LOTR nerd who's read the Trilogy over 10 times and all the other books, including Tolkien's biographies, at least once. The LOTR knows, if not Sindarin and Quenya, at least the proper pronounciation of Sindarin and Quenya words. And the LOTR nerd rants for hours about the PJ movies leaving out Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire and the movies screwing Faramir up.
The problem is that many of what was once nerdy is now mainstream, and so the nerds have to be even nerdier to be still considered nerds. And now there are nerd wannabes like the ones you described.
So yeah, I guess I'm a semi- old computer game nerd, and a full LOTR nerd, and a semi- computer hardware nerd, and a definite D&D nerd, and a definite Magic the Gathering nerd (Yu-Gi-Oh sucks), and a semi- computer software nerd, and ... Well, newspaper class is over, so now my rant must end.
