Nana's everyday life is brilliant. It's one of the saddest things I've ever seen, yet at the same time is a POWERFUL undeniable testament to the human spirit. The story is a fiction, but it's a parallel to a realistic understanding of the very real way this world works for certain people. I loved it because it sparks an indignation and rage against the dark and evil in the world that us first worlders love to ignore slathering by shades of gray over everything. The will to protect and do right is sparked by reading a comic like this, one of the great satirical pieces of our time. We love to sit back on our couches and watch the popular romances and comedies where it doesn't matter what we do, at the end of the movie the good guy always wins, and we just got to sit there and enjoy it. Even popular holly wood satire often inhumanizes and complicates the issues so there's a sense that it was by some fault of the character who has been lost that ultimately led to their demise and if they had only taken a different path and done the right thing their doom might have been averted. If only the real world was so kind. Nana is an utterly innocent character and an icon for the good of humanity, the comic is a pure and genuine statement against those that would spit on those values and a valuable realization that bad things don't have to happen because someone deserves it, they happen because good people allow the evil of the world it's room to move and act.
I can understand it being too hard to read through because of the weight of the content being presented, but I think any person who can't at least appreciate the statement being made is lacking something of their humanity.

I don't know about depressing. It's incredibly sad, but I'd find it less depressing to feel sad then feel nothing. Being sad a being depressed are very different things, sad people haven't given up. The comic really is not depressing, nana never gives up or loses her humanity, it's just utterly and violently sad.

You know, I never really thought of depressing that way. The only way I used to differenciate between sad and depressed was the magnitude. But thats just me.
Now...onto a light subject. Because those do exsist and worth examining just as much as the darker ones. I mean...can't have light without a shadow, can't have happiness without sorrow, and so on and so forth...
