Noize is correct, if you're going to go through the hassle to make something yourself then don't upload it to some crappy host that makes money out of something you made and are not making money from yourself! This is exactly how record companies work. There are plenty of better places to host. Ask around. I'll host a small amount of data for free on a webserver I have access to.
Putfile also sucks, there was no download link and they disable right click!
To download it I have to view source and find the mp3 link. It's a streaming site it turns out. disabling right click is just the most stupid, useless protection you can use. I mean first off you can view source anyway, packet sniff or whatever, secondly it's just an annoyance. I didn't even try to right click in the first place I pushed on the middle mouse button to navigate the view port and look for a download link.
rapidshare sucks so bad, I downloaded one file, ONE....
"You have reached the download-limit for free-users. Want to download more?
Get your own Premium-account now! Instant download-access! (Or wait 12 minutes)"
Sure it's probably not hard to circumvent but Jesus that's tight. They want people to sign up so bad, I hope they go bankrupt.
Haha all that downloading hasske and the music sucks. It might as well be uploaded in midi format.
For inspiration I suggest you listen to some of the music that came with C&C such as warfare, mechanical man, valkyrie, etc. The music that came with CC DOS was great. Use XCC Utilities to check them out. Also the original TA music was good so try that. Also for similar things listen to Gustav Holst or Philip Glass Koyaanisqatsi makes great battle music.

I realy enjoy Bases rising, and Edge of Discovery is ok too.
I would realy like to hear some more from where these came from, and I would realy like to have them as game music.
'Argh', if you now realy want something else, then cant you (if it doesnt give you too much truble) or any1 else for that matter, make a settings where you can select the music you want to be played under different sinarios (,building your base/attacking etc).
Here you should be able to pick, shall we say, the Orcestra version or any1 other song sets you would like to have.
Im not sure if this would be hard to do (since Im not a programmer), but isnt it all about derecting your links to a selection menue there you pick what "kit" of music you want to have during your playtime.
This would incurage people to make their own TA soundtracks that any1 can easely Download from some TA web site (maybe unknown files).
This kits im talking about shouldnt be too dificult to do, just put the different soundtracks in a folder (here you should have them in the right order) and zip it.
(or the soundtracks could be in seperate folders named 1 2 3 etc. and then they should all be put in a new folder that shall be converted to zip. this would simplefy the programing part wouldnt it? "just" relinking it to a selection window/bar that pick the tracks in the ziped folder, 1,2,3 etc.)
(Or just do it the simple way, have notepad do it all, redirect your links to your notepad, and in the notepad any1 that want to change the game music just change the browser to the map that contains the other soundtrack ex: ...\TASpring\Soundtracks\... (the name of the soundtrack(-kit))
(if it takes to much time to do all the relinking yourselves you could send a redme with it thats says something like : change the browser to "...\TASpring\Soundtracks\(the name of the artist)\(the name of the soundtrack)".
As I said Im not sure if this would be easy or hard to do, only that I would want It as an option.

The thing is; how does the engine know what phase the game is in?
It isnt easy to code something that can analyze the game, however i cant see that it could be a problem to code in a simple musicplayer...

sorry, i couldn't seed too mush, my dad's an ass and thought uploading would give me a virus
now, and idea:
first 5-10 mins: buildup song
rest of game where a shot hasn't been fired in the last 15 seconds: "peace" music
when a shot hs been fired in last 15 seconds: "battle" music
times are rought, sometimes you will be fighting whole game, sometimes you may have 5 minutes of peace...

The moment that somebody builds a Bertha,
there is only war.

and that would be an TA only problem
of course, it would be mod-defineable (the time frame)
also maybe it will look for how many shots in the past XXX secconds... (also mod defineable)

Thank ChrisT we aren't letting someones crap music taste impose on everybody elses. I can just imagine having to listen to some crap emo garbage during the build phase and appalling thrash metal during the battle phase.
A large part of the reason I play PC games more than console games nowadays is I can listen to my own music (and I have an absolute ton of it, 500+ albums I've listened to inside out, thousands more i've dabbled in) without being stuck with the game soundtrack.
Frankly, if I was to pick music for Spring i'd pick classical music that was in the public domain. Not the kind of stuff you've heard a million times like Flight of the Valkaries but something along those lines.

it would probably be user overrideable, just like cursors are... and if you hate it so much, you could edit your mod archive; i doubt it would give sync errors...
the way I see it is:
Mod.sdd\music\* --Where the music is
Mod.sdd\gamedata\music.tdf --says what songs to play when, in what order

by j5mello
yeah but really a user defined TDF should be in their main directory and if detected it should over write anyother TDFs. changing items inside the archive does not seem like a good idea as it could cause sync errors.

I believe that was my pet project a while back. Still intend to do it, once I find a compiler that will accept the spring source....

You missunderstod my point, my point was that it should be optional what music you wanted for build up, peace, battle (etc.)
That you should be able to make some minor changes in a notpad, copy in the new soundtrack in a soundtrack folder.
(with this you can keep the orcestra, or have what ever music you feel is best for YOU.)
And this about the 15 secunds untill peace... well sometimes bbs fire slower then 1 shoot /15 sec.
That would be like... War 15 sec... Peace 5 sec... War 15 sec... etc.
Now THAT would be annoying.
(btw, how many different "states" are there, I know: Build up, Peace, and War. Are there any more than that?)
(another thing I think the "building up" part of the soundtrack shouldnt be controld by the time into game, but the "units you have" divided by the "unit cap" or something, that would give it more sence during "rebuilds")

Oh sorry, I said missuderstod. maybe i picked the wrong words, I see that some of you arent THAT way out of track about what i said
