UnrealEngine is made for fps games yet still we got lineage on it? :D
Its a RPG and seems to work ok.

Yeah, but's that a real time single-avatar RPG. The requirements for that are basically the same as FPS. It's a Single Person Attacker. By RPG I think most people think of Party RPG's not single-av's like mmorpgs.

Microsoft are only hurting themselves. Imagine if you made for example an image editing program for windows, then microsoft sent you a notice saying don't make stuff for our OS! Go make it for another OS instead!

That's not the problem of the engine, though. What RPGs do that FPSes don't is wide open, connected landscapes.

Microsoft ir proecting their IP.
Halo is a active IP that's they are still developing high end games for, Meanwhile TA is old and has pretty much been abandoned.Even if a new TA game was deleoped today it wouldn't matter much as CT's game would overshadow it anyway, it's not like TA has a deep story to base off on. It was the game itself that was revolutionary

If MS doesn't protect their IP/trademarks they legally somewhat loose the rights as well. besides that it's pretty stupid to make Halo based mods anyway. as MS obviusly has more plans for Halo, and MS may at some point make similar games based on Halo themselves. And you can't guarantee the quality of a fan made mod, as such they can't allow them either as the could reflect badly on the Halo franchise

"This is Microsoft dealing with a mod based on a property that's pretty much the only thing the XBox has going for it. Of course they're going to gib it."

Now that smells badly of uninformed blind PS3 fanboyism.

irregardless of fanboyism anyone who followed the mod itself for a time realized that this wasn't some half-@$$ed job. That mod looked better than most of the other mods and even vanilla generals itself in some cases.

But such is the corporate world. From what ive heard on the forum and such it seems this may have been squashed because MS is looking into the idea of making a Halo RTS so...

Just what I was thinking.

They won't make FPS's forever, it's quite likely they have a plan for an RTS. They'll need something to tie in with the film (if it goes ahead). And if the film is of the first game, it's not like they can go and make another FPS of the same story.

Also...
irregardless

I do not believe anyone would pursue TASpring to have it shut down.

Remember Spring itself is based on the GPL and is open-source. Also I think a future intent would be to have Spring legally free of the TA copyrights (b/c of units and such).

Frankly, no one here is making any profit or money from this venture, we're all in it for the fun and the continuation of a great RTS game.

I think that a Company that would like to destroy spring wouldn`t use Lawyers.
The would act by "Divide and Ruule" and just buy of the Most important Modmakers and/or Devs. Addiditional one or two excessive Firestarters in the Forums - and they win.

Well now let's not give those "crooks" any ideas...

just figured I'd mention since Halo and the discontinuation of the Halo Mod for Generals was what started this thread.

Halo Wars was just announced at X06, and while I dont' think it was mentioned what HAlo wars was, (the news report I saw just said it looked awesoem) it beign develped by Ensemble studios so... I guess that will pretty much prove why the Generals mod was killed :)

Ew, Yuck! A console RTS? Why god, Why? (has trouble trying to imagine TA:Spring played on a console, esp. after wishing for a keyboard with *greek letters* for all those extra key bindings....).

Worst yet: if its a 360 title say goodbye to mods. That's what let Bungie's Myth II and many other strats (cough TA cough) continue to live on well past their prime.

Chances are, it won't be much like TA for that very reason. With a bit of luck, they'll use their heads and we might even see something we've never really seen before. An RTS for consoles that works.

This was before Bungie was bought by M$, it was going to be a Mac/PC only game.

From what I've seen yet it could have been one of the best mods for ZH.

PS: There have been RTS games on consoles for AGES. One of the first was a Dune 2 port to the Genesis (US)/Megadrive (EU), then CNC for the Saturn and PSX. Red Alert also got ported onto the PSX and a wierd version of Dune 2000 (it's actually in 3D but 2D in gaming aspects)... I'm pretty sure there's over a dozen other RTS games I don't know about and LOTS of TBS games (even on the Gameboy).

Hey, what are some good Gameboy advance TBS games? I only know of Fire Emblem, but just because I haven't been following GBA until recently when I got my DS.

Heh, I don't think we need to worry about Atari much... After all, I don't think they've got the cash to hire a lawyer anyway ^^

Gameboy Wars (Adv. 1, 2 [aka Black Hole Rising]), there's also some sort of isometric RTS game for the GBA, forgot the name though.

Check out gamefaqs.com's GBA section and sort it by genre, that's what I do when I'm hunting down some RO^H^H filling my shopping cart. *ahem*
Then again, FFTA (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance). It's a pretty solid strategy/RPG mix. Though the original on the PSX had 10 times better athmosphere but less freedom in exchange :P
