By the time the money comes in in order to afford it it'll be too late.
I have an upgrade planned later on, but I'm not willing to spend £200+ on a cpu and a compatible motherboard for a chip thats getting replaced in the next few months by an even bigger one, even though I dont even have the money for a £200+ upgrade nor the patience to wait while I run a computer that has a 4x agp slot nm a 16x PCI-E.
ps: I've just ntocied the smileys have been changed by someone.... Most people wont notice it.....

What is this better chip you speak of? I'm pretty sure Intel madea press release saying that the Core Duo 2 was going to be the only chip from now until august-september of 2007...

2007? In that case I think it'd be better I upgraded to core 2 duo sometime early next year when I have the money to get newly released hardware and DX10 cards.
Although, it was stated that AMD would have 4x4 setup by xmas, and native quad cores around june 2007, beaten by conroe quad cores in either late 2006 or early 2007 at similair prices to the current dual core conroes.

Quad core is pretty worthless at the moment, Nothing that will be made in the next year or so will support it, And I don't think XP supports over 4 cores :O

drone do you really think that game devs make dual core games no they make multi threaded games with a predefined thread setup for dual core/single core cpu's hell i have an oblivion.ini set up for a 4x4 mobo when it comes out.

I believe window's and mac's server os' support quad

. But those os' are worth like over 500 dollars XD!
'core 2 duos will be obsolete by christmas, they're sole purpose is to lure your money out of your wallet just before they bring out a new set fo cores to take away just as much money again.
If you spend money you've saved on a core 2 duo now you'll be kicking yourself in 3-4 months time.' - You
Thats only in the mind of people with tens of thousands of dollars who buy like 5 computers a year... If you thought that way, then truely whats the point of buying a computer in the first place if it IS going to be obsolete? The thing is lets say you buy an e6400 (conroe) and over clock it to 3ghz, it will be basically the same as the x6800. And becuase you have a near high end system it wont be bottlenecked for like 2 years even though a new line of cpu's will be released. And the graphics card, as long as you get over 20 fps its playable. Its just depending on weither you want high end ALL the time, or willing to gracefully use your computer's totally technological lifespand. Another example is people deciding on either getting 7600GT's or 7900GT's. The people getting 7600GT"S figure, they'll directly get the 8000's when there released. The people getting 7900gt's think, hey dx10 wont be into much effect untill 1 year after its released so lets max settings every game while we can, then buy an 8XXX.
And i dont really see how conroes are made to lure people out of there wallets, a 250USD conroe over clocked can easily beat 900 dollar processers..
