1280x960 and 1280x1024 are the native resolutions of my LCDs.

I run my CRT at 1600x1200. (for graphics work)

My LCD does 1600/1200 as its native rez, so I leave it that way... I've found it costs me too much fuzziness to run at lesser resolutions, so I rarely do so, unless whatever I'm messing around with at the moment won't tolerate that large of a screen.

Caydr: Cool, where did you get a 1280x960 LCD from?

Aint it just hz? mhz is quite fast refresh rate :)

mhz is actually quite slow 8)

What... megahertz is actually really fast. 75mhz means the screen pixels gets lightened up 75 000 000 times in second, which isnt even possible in these days.
Normal screens uses 60-120 hz refresh rate, which means they refreshes the screen pixels 60-120 times in second. (and no, it doesnt mean FPS rate).

No it actually means the pixel image tracer of a CRT monitor displays every pixel in its cycle at a rate of 75Mhz, or the equivilant in and LCD aka the number of times the entire screen is updated.

Of course if your screen had a refresh rate of 75Hz you would see a very bad image akin to watching a computer screen through a video camera but much worse

guys..guys.. a little monitor 101

my videocard sends my tube a 85Hz Vrefresh signal
yes, thats 85 full screen refreshes per second.
this is also for TFT's expressed in miliseconds
ie. 0.016 s = 60Hz , 0.012 s = ~85

(Hrefresh = ~vrefresh*vertical scanlines, and is in the kHz range)

Vesa standard is 72 or 74 Hz for this, since most people no longer see flicker above it on a CRT.
A TFT has a gentler image to the eye, crisper 'afterglow' maybe, so it can work with a low refresh without causing strain.

Though this is not directly related to game FPS, it DOES determine the maximum fps that can be shown on a monitor.

So on a 60Hz TFT you can't show more than 60 game fps.
Since rendering frames that can't land on your retina is bullshit. you better put maxfps to that of the vsync, to save resources, and so keep your video chip and memory slightly cooler. In some engines fps is linked to network performance also.

It's also important to tell your game to sync your game FPS to the vsync fps, so you wont see half rendered frames (tear lines.)

1600x1200 x 2 (dual 20" LCD)

Now what's this for, eh?

I could run my 17" CRT at 200 hz in 640x480 resoloution :P (but I admit it's not too healthy for it)

phlendens...

speaking of heat and videocards and the like...

would 52 C be a "nominal" avg temp on a Radeon X1600 Pro??

cause I've had alot of anomolies on this card, and its display, and its making me crazy.....

part of the reason, is I think it has ALL of its power drawn from the mobo, and its not got ENOGUH power for the fans etc, to run properly... maybe..
call me a moron with this card fine... but the CPU and the mobo itself, I know what I'm doin...

dunno, but 50 is not unheard of for CPU's, depends on the room temperature and load. Typical overheatting sympthom is image/texture corruption.

See if it needs a 2nd power cable, and get the latest drivers.
put driver settings to default and dont overclock.
insspect your system logfiles for anomalies too.
