In the Vista generation they say that 2GB of memory will be average and 4GB will be what most enthusiasts use... But there's lot of other new hardware you need to be vista compatable. CPU, Video card, and motherboard all have to be vista accepted.

I would wait for vista to release to buy up hardware for it. It sounds like alot of people are going to be left hanging because they thought they were buying next gen hardware when Microsoft hasn't actually made the vista hardware requirements solid yet.
The only reason I mentioned it was to say that yes, RAM requirements are still steadily rising. Dual core processors run best with at least a gig of RAM to work with, and spring mappers will never regret having more RAM.
I don't know if you need 2 gigs of RAM, it might be nice but there are very few applications that actually use that much, and if you have a single core processor your bottleneck is more likely the CPU then the RAM if you're having performance problems with 1 Gig. RAM does help with compiling models faster and rendering large images for spring maps, this I do know.

The 2 gig RAM chip will work on PC's with newer motherboards... Pull out your motherboard manual and read the specifications. Some it should say what the largest size RAM chip it can handle and what the maximum amount of RAM you could have in it. Otherwise we need to know your motherboard make and model to research.

Things we need to know:
What manufacturer makes your Motherboard, and what is the Model?
Does your motherboard support DDR (Not DDR2) or does it support SDRAM?
Also... I don't know if they ship to france, however, did you look at
http://www.Newegg.com?

be very careful with large modules (2Gb) as the motherboard might not accept them unless they are of the correct brand/make
