HELP! THE INTERNETS IS STEALING MY MONITOR PIXELS! BAN BAN BAN!
On a side note, AF has a point. how can we steal whats not there? We are remaking it all forom scratch anyways.

AF - it doesn't matter that it's not the ACTUAL content from Supreme Commander, OR Total Annhilation. If the units look similar enough, or have the same names, that's enough to get a C&D letter or instant legal action.
Believe me, I've worked on enough/seen enough mods get shut down for just that. Bid for Power was an infamous DBZ-based mod for Quake 3. FUNimation shut them down. I worked on a Fight Club mod for Halflife, until 20th Century Fox sent us a C&D letter. Also worked on a Matrix mod before being shut down.
It can happen as easy as anything else. And the more attention TASpring gets, the more likely it is to happen.

We have so many original (kinda) mods in development, so we will always have those to fall back on.
And it's better to say 'sorry, we did'nt know' than it is to ask and have them refuse. In that case, you can't even try.

vassago, outside of the mods that are mimick a game what about game design aspects?

Despite discussion
I am not planning to port supreme commander units to spring. There is already a project doing that for OTA.
What I wanted was to implement mobile factories.
That feature is not a sup com feature as it existed long before sup com existed. Think home world style carriers that can move but build things inside them like a factory, or the terran factories in star craft that can float in the air to move somewhere else land then build.
Imagine aircraft carriers that build aircraft, mobile shipyards in FF etc....
btw sup com has the mobile tank factory super unit but that alpha 2 does not have it.
So I need a mobile factory unit. Not a static factory unit that gets loaded up in a specially scripted transport, or a nanoblobz style con bot that just happens to build units too

AF - That's a great idea. I'd love to have mobile factories in Spring. Would be a welcomed addition :)
Smoth - game designs can't really be copyrighted, otherwise Id would have patented first-person-shooter mechanics long ago. If your mod shares design with other games, that's okay. It just can't contain material (or too similar) material to what IS copyrighted in another game. But hey, I'm working on a StarWars mod here

Probably one of the most copyrighted licenses in existence :)
However, I'm not dumping my heart and soul into the project. I'm simply texturing their pre-existing models. Nothing spectacular there.
:)

As I said, if this is only for testing purposes you could change the .fbi file of a factory to make it mobile.
What I'd also like would be an option to have factories launch finished units in a ballistic trajectory to a point on the map. That way we could have a tank that shoots kamikaze bots.

KDR, I dont even know if that works etc, I dont have time to go pick which factory would best be changed for that etc.
I want a unit, not a hack

its impossible to create a non hacked moving factory which doesnt do silly things with waypoints

Agreed. A true "mobile factory" is a bad idea. Much better would be to have a factory building welded to a mobile unit. That way you can give movement orders to the mobile base and waypoint orders to the welded factory. That kind of approach would also be nice for weapons that deserve individual orders (like a battleship that has normal weaponry and a full bertha mounted on it).

I understood you want a moble factory but what do you want it to look like:
I know my drawling sucks, but what are you looking for exactly.

It doesn't have to look welded together, any more than the landing pads look welded onto the aircraft carrier. I mean, TA models are already made of segmented parts stuck together. The only real difference is that you'd have one unit where you can select the two parts of it seperately.

Is it suppose to build on the go? or cant build on the go?

that was my thought too, since factories actually are ->canmove but with speed 0 (the waypoint out is when you command it to move)
maybe base it on the principle in the combat con vehicles/kbots in xta/aa ? youll actually have to place the units though, unless that can be otherwise fixed(ive seen some alpha stage mods with factories where you have to place the units being built). since both waypoint and the move command use the same thing you gotta resolve that

come to think of it, terran barracks in starcraft can fly

but not build while flying

Its not the preetiest thing in the world, but it works for the part but it cant move beacause it thinks its a factory,

i hope this is barely good enough quality for ya. i put yardmap and working script in so have fun unless you reject it for its crappers look.

Its a fair bet GPG knows about all this anyway, they already know about spring. Hell, as its Open source, I bet they are watching and nabbing OUR better ideas for their game code

blah blah blah blah... I din't even bother to read everyone is saying because you are all stupid and not listening to AF, he is looking for a unit to implement his ideas with... he doesn't really care weather you like the idea or not at this point (well... I would assume he "cares"... but that's not the point)...
Anyways, now I get hypocritical, there is no reason to "weld" units when you can simply implement a more robust menu system... just add a "waypoint" button to the menu and voila... units move there...ideally you would also be able to build units "loaded" into the carrier, and they would "fill up" and need to be "unloaded"... or even better to be treated as weapons like in starcraft as he said, leaving the nest and then returning for repair or when the unit is no-longer threatened.
If you get this working smoth will love you forever... I think he wanted this feature for his Gundam commanders
@AF: I could... in theory... make a 3D model that could be used for the purpose you speak of because I was already planning on designing a unit that could build and transport units... but I am very slow and bad at modelling so don't expect me to acctually do so...
ALSO: WOOOOOOO CAFFEINE INDUCE INSANITY BABBLING!!!!
EDIT: Went back and read... looks like y'all figured this stuff out already... I think the key here is "options" if you want a unit to be able to move and only build when its stopped, but build like a factory... scripting should be able to allow it when the ability to build from mobile factories is available.

And have it build aircraft.
OH CRAP

, I FORGOT THAT PART

somone else want to actually give it a shot, or you all like to watch.
Aircraft carries... whoever posted about not actually listening to AF about his ideas is really right, i need to may more attention.
