The host should be able to disable pauses. I don't play in games that get paused for other peoples' problems.

Then you're a selfish, arrogant player - and I say that in the most honest manner. Spring is not the most stable program, and any little thing in the background can interfere severely with gameplay. The fact that you would begrudge a pause over the loss of a player is simply absurd.

Are we talking about the same thing here?
I've never been able to pause the game when the game is "interfered" with by things "in the background" because
the freaking game is crashed.
No, most people pause - without explanation - to go to the bathroom, to go get some food, to go smoke, to answer the phone, to chat on the phone, to chat on AIM, to let the cat out, to let the cat in, to feed the birds, to close the windows, to turn the light on, and a multitude of other real-life reasons. If I have to do any of these things while playing - and I do - I simply do them without pausing, because real-life concerns are
far more important than a game of Spring.
I've said this before.
If something is important enough that you have to leave the computer while playing Spring, it's important enough that you can leave the computer without pausing the game. If it's not important enough to make you leave the computer without ensuring that the game is paused, it's not important enough to leave the computer, period.
If you have to take a shit, that's wonderful. Don't pause the game. If I have to take a shit, I don't pause the game, and I expect the same courtesy from others.

How is it buggy and what do you mean by unsupported?

get the best of both worlds.
as we all know IRL > Spring.
so PAUSE it for 5-10 minutes
Everyone else: just close your eyes or look out a window, relax those poor tired eyes and stick some music on (although you should have some on anyway!

) then just wait for that gentle beep.
then let CARNAGE ensue >=D

Observations:
Pause NEEDS to be universal, so if I need to get the phone or something really quickly (happens far too much) during a game, and I say "brb in a sec", and I pause, and my opponents try to unpause, my teammates can themselves pause the game to prevent them from beign asshats.
And speedchanging SHOULD NOT be a .cheat feature! Speeding up or slowing down the speed needs to be available, but only to ythe host - the whole point of it is that it game slows down when things get really laggy; host is in est position to see lagging, so he should be oinly one to change it.

I think speed should be enabled for all or for noone. I don't wanna have situations where the host is loosing and decides to set speed to 0.1 just to annoy you.

the host can already decide that
.setmaxspeed
.setminspeed

And Felix you retard (

) you're assuming that pausing happens only to annoy peopple or people can't use it properly. First look at my post a few posts back. SEcond, realize that not every game of Spring is between random assholes online. What if a bunch of pals are playing? I trust my IRL buds if they say "lets pause and take a walk becvause we've been playing for too many hours already" or something, you know?

Make it an option then. I support full customization.
But if we were playing, say, poker or spades or something, it would be very rude to get up in the middle of a hand without explanation and without giving any indication of when you'll be back, and expect everyone else to just sit there and wait patiently for you. I generally have things I have to do
after a game of Spring, and I'd like to get to those things without undue delay.
Basically, you're saying it's respect to allow someone to pause - I'm saying it's respect to not pause in the first place.

95% of all online gamers are assholes. Just look at the people here in the forum.
And in my experience, the single most reason for the use of pause is the "oh, a surprise attack! Lets look where i can get reinforcements and target my towers and search for weaknesses while the game is on hold."
Or the "my bomber force has reached the enemy base, lets pause to look for a good target before the AA kills everything."

I've never seen this happen. Most often it is a doorbell, a phone call, or for our younger crowd, an upset mother telling them to do their homework or get some sunshine.

a great one is OMG airplanes and all i have is nanotowers *pause* "er...brb

"
*buildqueue set*
"how the hell did you reclaim my bombers? they are moving so fast how did you clikc them?"
"uber micro >;D"
seen it done to me once :D

how about the game starts with the max speed and min speed at 1, and only the host can change it? that seems like the simplest thing to do...

Uch, yeah, I really had trouble with that. I was used to play single player games. So I could always pause when I needed to.
btw, you can still click the bombers though. they are not
that fast.
Can we use central build AI and let the nano turrent reclaim the entire area?
Anyway, The speed option should be in cheat or onl;y accesable by the host. More since it's changed by the del button, that I some times accidently hit instead of the enter. (my del button is very close to the return and twice the normal size).
pause should be remain available for everyone. the most annoying people ask us how to pause, to lazy to try some things out.

My keyboard actually lacks a pause key, so it took me a long time to figure that little feature out, and rebind the key.

well for those with a average keyboard...it says 'pause' ffs :{P

Idea to stop the pause cheating thing:
if the game is paused, freeze the camera so you cant move around, and disable the ability to order things around. But you should still be able to use the current pause thing if .cheat is on.
Problem solved.

how about the person who paused cannot move around etc.?
normally i don't care if someone else pauses, because then i can make huge ques and micro later...

or make two pauses: Freeze-pause, where screen cannot be moved/zoomed, and "micro pause", where you can still issue commands.
I usually do need a freeze pause at least once a game because 'rents keep calliung me ( I dont move out until a few months from now); even though I usually win, it'd be nice to know my opponents arent "using" the situation
